Chapter 48:

I woke up and realized, this isn't my old bedroom. Then, I remember that I was in Monticello. With Thomas. I feel so guilty but it feels right for some reason. I observed the room, velvet colored blanket wrapped around my body. I saw Thomas, sleeping on the other side of the bed. What have I done?
I started to shed a couple tears. And I sobbed a little.
"What's wrong?" Thomas asked, flipping over to meet my eyes.
"I'm sorry. This feels so wrong." I sobbed.
"But doesn't it also feel right?" He moved closer to me.
"I mean." I started. He wrapped his arms around my waist. I giggled a little.
"Admit it. You loved it." He whispered in my ear.
"I..." I tried to say it, but there was a feeling inside me called guilt.
"You love me." He hugged me tighter and closer to him.
"I don't hate what I'm doing." I commented. "But at the same time I am. Wouldn't this consider me a slut?"
"Listen, Alexander isn't giving you any action, that's why you can always come to me. I'll give you the action you want." He explained.
"Okay." I snuggled into the crook of his neck.
Thank God that I had a good excuse. I left a note when I got up in the middle of the night to go to Monticello.
I'm going on a walk. I'll be back later. I needed fresh air.
-Love, Y/n
I got up from the bed. "I'm sorry, I can't stay any longer." I used a robe to cover myself.
"Stay." Thomas begged. "We could sleep in together."
"I can't. I'm sorry but my parents and children are expecting me to come back any minute. But why don't you help me with my corset?" I looked at him as he closed his eyes and one of his arms was extended off the bed.
"Stay." He repeated, mumbling it a little.
"Maybe another night as in later." I offered. "Please, I beg of you, don't tell anyone."
"Nobody needs to know." He smiled. Finally opening his eyes. "And I'll help you with your corset." He sighed. "You look sexy with that robe on." He flirted.
"Shut up." I felt myself blush.
He helped me with my corset and I put on my dress.
"Well, tell your father that I'll miss him around the office."
"What?"
"Oh, you don't know yet?"
"What?"
"He's retiring."

I walked to the carriage, was what Thomas said true? I can't stop thinking about it. When I got to my parents' house, I made sure no one saw the carriage and walked to the house entrance. I opened the door and Philip and Angelica came to greet me.
"Grandpa's staying home! He's gonna tell me and Angelica about his time in the war! It's gonna be so cool! Come on Mama!" He grabbed my hand and ran with me behind him.
"Slow down! The stories won't go anywhere!" I laughed. And there, Dad on the couch, with his glasses. Philip plopped down on the carpeted floor next to Angelica. I sat next to Father.
"Tell us grandpa! We're all here!" Angelica announced.
"Well. Let me tell you what I wished I had known. When I was young and dreamed of glory, you have no control who lives, who dies, who tells your story." Dad started. Philip and Angelica looked intrigued.
"You know, your mother is like no other mother out there. She has fought in the war." Father explained.
"WHAT?!" Angelica and Philip gasped in unison.
"Yep. And that's how she and your father met. Believe me, a lot of boys wanted her hand in marriage, but I didn't let them. Of course, they never met her, they just saw her and asked me. Your father was lucky I didn't reject him."
Father seemed to be so happy to spend time with Philip and Angelica. And they looked like they enjoyed the stories.
"I'm sorry. We've been inside all morning. Can we please take a walk?" I asked.
"But you went on a walk this morning." Philip pointed out.
"I know, but I like the outside(author: SCREECH THE SUN IS TOO BRIGHT *hisses like a vampire*)." I smiled. So I walked outside, while father continued to tell Philip and Angelica stories. And it was just a beautiful day. I laid on the grass, under the tree shade. "Y/n! Haven't seen you in a while!" Mom walked by. "I went shopping downtown."
"Ah, I went on a walk." I informed her. We both walked back to the house.
"Oh, Y/n! I want you to come to the office tomorrow. I want to tell you something important." Dad informed me.
"Why can't you just say it here?" I questioned.
"Because, I also need to tell Alexander." Father explained.
"Okay. I'll come." I answered.

That night, I couldn't sleep. I tossed and turned, while the kids slept soundly. So I lit a candle and started working on a letter. I haven't heard from Alexander. I then realized, Alexander probably is working his ass off and doesn't want me to bother him. So I got into my robe and shoes. I got into a carriage and rode off to Monticello.

Alexander's POV:
There's nothing like summer in the city. I haven't slept in a week. I was weak, you've never seen someone like me more in need of a break. I know Y/n said to take care of myself, but let's just face it. I haven't eaten either. I don't know how I'm still alive, but I am. Longing for Angelica and Eliza. Missing my wife. That's when I heard a knock on the door.
I went to go open it. There stood one of Y/n's friends. Maria was it?
"I know you're a man of honor. I'm sorry to bother you home," she walked in, "But I don't know where else to go, and I came here all alone. My husband's doing me wrong. Beating me, cheating me, mistreating me. Suddenly, he's up and gone, I don't have the means to go on."
"Do you want some tea?" I offered.
"Yes, please."
I decided to walk her home.
"Here's what I'll do. I'm gonna give you a loan," I informed her. "So you and your daughter can leave your husband and be stable."
"You're too kind, sir." She stated, blushing a little.
We arrived at a house and she stopped.
"That ones mine sir." She pointe to the house.
"Well, I should head back home." I started to walk away, but she touched my arm.
"Stay?" She begged.
"Hey..." I commented.
"Hey..." she repeated.
She looked so helpless, that's when I started to pray. Lord, tell me how to say no to this, I can't say no to this. I need to stay faithful to Y/n, I need to stay faithful to myself. But oh my god, I deserve a break. Y/n told me to take a break. But this is not what she meant. But I need a break. I decided to stay, but I wish that was the last time I saw her. Seeing her became a pastime. After a month of this, I received a letter from a man named James Reynolds. Here's what it said:
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. And in a prosperous enough position to put wealth in the pockets of people like me down on their luck. You see that's my wife you decided to-
I couldn't read it anymore. But I have to.
You made the wrong sucker a cuckold. So time to pay for the pants you unbuckled. And you can keep seeing my whore of a wife if the price is right, if not I'm telling your wife.
I can't believe it. Y/n would kill me if she found out. So I decided to hide the letter and go confront Maria.
