"I had an affair with Thomas Jefferson the same time you had your affair with Maria Reynolds."
"You WHAT?!" His eyes grew wide, his eyebrows raised that made his forehead wrinkle.
"I know. I'm a hypocrite(can you smell the hypocrisy cakesniffers?) and I know I hurt everyone by doing it. I'm sorry Alexander but just know, I still love you and I have never loved Thomas." I explained, touching his arms. He sat there.
"Then why did you do it?!" He asked.
"I felt so alone. He gave me company when you didn't come on vacation." I felt tears form in my eyes.
"I'm gonna go kill that son of a b*tch." He stood up.
"Alexander!" I ran after him.
"No! This needs to be settled. I need to beat his ass up!" He threatened.
"Alexander, do whatever you want to me. But please, it's not his fault." I begged. It was his fault though, he convinced me it was ok.
"No! I'm gonna hear what this motherf*cker has to say about his actions." He kept walking. He grabbed my wrist and led me towards the carriage. The way he grabbed my wrist was tight.
"Alexander, that hurts!" I tried to warn him.
He opened the door and led me inside. He let go of my wrist. I can see his face, tired and angry, I feel so bad."Where to?" The driver asked.
"Monticello." Alexander grunted. I sat by his side.
"Alexander, please don't do this. You're better than this." I whispered so the driver wouldn't hear, looking at Alexander.
"My love." He touched my chin with his index and his thumb. Not looking as angry as before. He looked sincere. "I know you know that I hate him. It's not something I try to hide from the world. If it makes you happy, I'll ask him what happened and if I don't like the answer...I'll murder him."
I looked into his eyes. He was truly angry. Heartbroken even.
"I've known you longer than him. I trust that you were pressured by him." He spoke."How did you know-" I started.
"I can see it in your eyes that you never loved him." He cut me off.
We got to Monticello and Alexander rushed to the door and knocked angrily. Thomas opened the door, still in his nightwear.
"What?" He asked, half awake. Alexander grabbed him by the throat and pushed him against a wall. I ran after them.
"You man whore!" Alexander yelled.
"Hypocrisy much?" Thomas chokesn In out.
"Alexander," I laid a hand on his arm, "Please, I don't want you to hurt anybody. Let's go home and discuss this in a private manner."
Alexander looked down tired, took off his glasses, rubbed his eyes, and looked back at me. "Let's" he looked back down and grabbed my hand. We started walking away from Thomas Jefferson quietly. Alexander turned around to look at Jefferson, "Don't expect me to be in the office on Monday. My career is over, so throw a celebration for all I care. I need to go raise my children." I looked at him, surprised, after all this time...
The carriage ride back was quiet. I looked out the window as Alexander did on the other side.
"Alexander." I broke the silence. I turned to him as he looked at me, wondering what I'm about to say. "I forgive you." I smiled. Tears ran down his face fast, which made me cry too. He hugged me and I hugged him back.
"And I forgive you, my love. My only love." He sobbed.
