Martha's POV:
I watched as the carriage rode into the night. Where was Y/n going so late? What is she doing? As a mother, I started jumping into conclusions. Maybe she went to the theatre to see a late show? A bar? The park? And how many times has she disappeared into the night like this? Is this why she's always 'taking a walk in the park' in the morning? I guess I'll have to wait until she comes back.
Y/n's POV:
I laid on Thomas's chest, with an arm on it as well. He had one of his arms wrapped around me.
"Good morning, my little angel." Thomas kissed my head.
"This doesn't seem right." I cried.
"Y/n, listen. Where is Alexander right now?" He asked.
"In his office." I answered.
"That's right. If he truly loved you he would be here with you on vacation."
"But the children, they don't deserve this. What if they find out?" I panicked.
He lifted my chin with only his thumb and index finger. "Nobody will find out. What they don't know won't kill them."
"What if someone asks? What if someone is suspicious of us?" I questioned.
"Listen, if someone asks where you were all night, tell them you went to a bar or went to go see a late play and fell asleep in the theatre or both."
"Okay." I sighed as I rested my head on his chest, once again. "I should leave soon. Dad wants me to be in the office today."
"Aw, why can't you ever stay? It's too early. Stay and cuddle with me." He begged.
"I can't stay. My mother will get suspicious. Nobody stays in a park that long unless they have something to do there." I explained.
"Aw, well have a safe trip home. I'll see you soon. I'm not going to the office, but your father invited me over for dinner, along with the rest of the cabinet."
I went to go change behind a folding screen as he talked to me. I walked out in a regular dress.
"Well then," I give him a kiss on the head, "I'll see you soon." I put my hat on. I walked out and into the carriage as I usually do. When I arrived, I walked into the house to find mom waiting for me.
"Good morning Y/n! How was your walk in the park?" She drank her tea. She knows something. "Or did you even go to the park?" I knew it, she's on to me.
"I went to go see a play late last night. I'm sorry if I worried you." I lied.
"No you didn't. Y/n, you're a great liar, but I don't believe you." Mom replied. Shit. What do I do?
"Ok here's the truth," I started to sob. "Alexander has been working so hard. I barely see him anymore. And I begged him to take a break and I just don't know if he loves me anymore. So I go to the bar and drink my problems away." She came to hug me and rub my back. Damn, I'm a good actress.
"I'll always be here for you. Don't worry. If things don't work out, you can always come here, don't feel trapped." She soothes me.
"T-th-thank you." I wipe away the tears. That was too easy.

I went to dad's work and left Angelica and Philip with mom.
"Aw, where's the kids?" Madison asked me.
"Spending time with their grandma." I explained.
"Y/n!" Alexander exclaimed in shock.
"Hey Alexander." I beamed.
"How's vacation?" He questioned.
"Very fun. You should've joined." I teased.
"Maybe, but I'm going through a breakthrough, maybe next summer." He answered.
"Hamilton." Madison addressed.
"Madison." Alexander looked at him angrily, while gritting his teeth.
"Boys, this is no time to fight." I assured them.
"Hamilton and...Y/n, come with me." Dad announced.
"Daddy's calling." Madison teased, then he laughed and coughed into his handkerchief. Alexander stormed away to dad. I ran after him.
"Don't let him get to you." I touched Alexander's left shoulder with my fingertips. He rubbed his eyes from under his glasses and sighed.
"Look at where we are," I sang quietly, "look at where we started."
He touched my hand that was on his shoulder, "Let's hope Washington's got good news."
————
"I need to give you a word of warning." Dad started.
"Whatever it is, Jefferson started it." Alexander accused.
"Thomas Jefferson resigned this morning." Dad informed us. "I need a favor."
"Whatever you say, Jefferson will pay for this behavior." Alexander began.
"Shh, talk less." Dad shushed him.
"I'll use the press." Alexander offered.
"I need you to draft an address." Dad ordered.
"Yes! You can finally speak your mind!" Alexander added.
"No, he's stepping down so he can run for President." Dad informed him.
"Ha! Good luck defeating you!" Alexander laughed.
"I'm stepping down, I'm not running for President." Dad looked outside the window.
"I'm sorry, what?" Alexander questioned.
"No!" I yelped.
"One last time, relax, have a drink with me." Dad walked over to his desk and poured two whiskey glasses. "You want a drink too, Y/n?" Dad offered.
"Um, sure." He poured another glass and walked over to hand it to me. "Please reconsider this. The people need you." I begged.
"No! One last time, we're gonna teach 'em how to say goodbye." He walked around the room. I followed after him.
"Please, your position is so unique." Alexander commented. "And let's not forget, France and Britain are at the verge of war!"
"I want to warn against partisan of fighting and if we get this right they'll learn to move along." Dad replied. "So pick up a pen Alexander and start writing. I want to talk about what I have learned, the hard-won wisdom I have earned."
"Why do you have to say goodbye?" I asked.
"It outlives me when I'm gone." He took a sip from his drink. He stared out the window. "Like the Scriptures say: 'Everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree and no one shall make them afraid.' They'll be safe in the nation we made. I want to sit under my own vine and fig tree, a moment alone in the shade at home in this nation we made."
Alexander started writing the address, I watch as Alexander wrote down words and he read them out loud.
"Though, in reviewing the incidents of my administration, I am unconscious of intentional error, I am nevertheless too sensible of my defects not to think it probable that I may have committed many errors. I shall also carry with me. The hope that my country will view them with indulgence and that
After forty-five years of my life dedicated to its service with an upright zeal, the faults of incompetent abilities will be consigned to oblivion. As I myself must soon be to the mansions of rest. I anticipate with pleasing expectation that retreat in which I promise myself to realize the sweet enjoyment of partaking, in the midst of my fellow-citizens, the benign influence of good laws under a free government. The ever-favorite object of my heart, and the happy reward, as I trust, of our mutual cares, labors, and dangers." Alexander read from the paper.
"Good. This is it. One last time." Dad approved.
"So you're retiring?" I questioned.
"Yes, I'll be home for now on." Dad answered.
"I'm proud of you." I started to cry and hugged him. "You dedicated your life to make this nation." He touched my head as I cried a little on his shoulder. "You deserve a break."
————————
Alexander and I stepped out of the office and went outside for a walk.
"So, you're still not gonna join us for vacation?" I asked.
"I'm sorry Y/n, but I got some business to take care of." He answered.
Alexander's POV:
I have to talk with Maria, and hopefully clear up this before it's too late.
Y/n POV:
"The children miss you. They wanted you to come with us." I commented. I looked at Alexander. He looked so dead tired, glasses covering his bags, his hair was a mess. "Let me fix your hair." I touched his hair and fixed it to make it look less messy, he flinched a little as I came in contact with him. "This shouldn't be awkward Alexander!" I looked him in the eyes, he looked worried. "What's up with you these days? You don't talk to me, write to me, kiss me, sleep with me and not just because I'm on vacation, but every other time I'm home. It was so different from when we were at camp." I mentioned.
He looked to the side.
"Don't look away, tell me what's wrong." I angrily stated.
"You won't understand." He mumbled.
"Won't understand? Understand what?" I yelled.
"Understand what I'm going through." He quietly spoke.
"Oh, believe me, I'll understand. I'm right here. When I married you, I promised to be here for you, but did you promise to be here for me?" I argued.
He stayed silent.
I started to walk away, he just stood in the same spot and looked down at the ground. I went towards the office and went inside. I sat down in a chair and covered my face. What happened? Where did it all go wrong? Should I leave Alexander for Thomas?
I can't leave Alexander for Thomas, my kids watch my every move. If I move in with Thomas it'll be weird for them, they'll be publicly shunned and so will Alexander. And if I move in with my parents? The kids will still be gossiped about. I need to stay strong.
I felt a pair of arms around my shoulders.
"I'm sorry Y/n." The familiar voice sympathized. "Alexander's a douche." The voice whispered in my ear. I looked up to seeThomas Jefferson.
"I thought you said you weren't gonna be here." I stated.
"Yeah, but I came to get my stuff from the office." He informed me.
"Oh, ok." I wiped my tears.
"Y/n! I-Jefferson!" Alexander gritted his teeth as he walked in.
"Hamilton." Jefferson smirked at him.
"What are you doing touching my wife?"
"I'm not damaging property, and I'm her closest friend." He added in a matter of fact tone.
"I need to borrow Y/n for a minute. I must speak with her." Alexander informed us. I stood up and followed Alexander as we walked outside.
"Listen, I'm sorry. For everything." He grabbed both of my hands in his. "You relish being a poor man's wife?" Alexander asked.
"I relish being your wife. We don't need money, I didn't marry you to have money." I answered.
"What did you marry me for?" He looked at me.
"For your love. Because I love you and I always will." I kissed him on his lips.
"I got you a present. A ring, it wasn't cheap, but I wanted to give you something to help you remember I will always love you no matter what." Alexander dug through his pocket, until he finally pulled out a gold ring.
"Alexander," I put a hand to my mouth, "you didn't have to."
"But I wanted to." He replied as he gently took my hand and put the ring on it.
"Thank you." I hugged him.
——————
Dad and I returned home. We got ready and when the time came, all of Dad's cabinet came to have dinner. We all sat at the dinner table drinking, eating, and chatting.
"Who's gonna be the next president?" I asked.
"Yours truly right here." John Adams spoke.
"Really?" I asked politely as I can.
"Yeah."
We continued to eat dinner and I sat next to Alexander, who was on my right side and Angelica who was one my left. Jefferson was across from me, but tried to not look at me, possibly from the fear of Alexander catching him. But under the table his leg touched mine.
"Alexander can you please just take a break?" I begged.
"I would but I have so much on my plate," he looked down at his dinner plate, which was almost empty, "figuratively."
"Fine."
———————
"And that's how you make ice cream." Thomas finished.
"Fascinating." Dad looked amazed.
Thomas was explaining the recipe he got from France on how to make this frozen treat called ice cream.
"Mommy, I'm tired." Angelica informed me.
"Looks like it's bed time. I'll be back soon." I told the other guests as I took Angelica by the hand and went upstairs with her. I tucked Angelica into bed and kissed her goodnight.
"Mommy? Can you stay till I fall asleep? Or read me a story?" She asked.
"Sure thing." I grabbed a book and started reading. She looked so intrigued but fell asleep soon. I also felt sleepy until I closed my eyes. I slept for a while until I heard yelling come from downstairs. I woke up and went downstairs to see what the commotion was all about. I stayed on the stairs and watched. Alexander and Thomas were fighting.
"That's enough! Can't we have a nice dinner without you two fighting?" Dad asked.
"Jefferson started it." Alexander accused.
"I don't care who started it." Father replied. Alexander, Jefferson, and Dad all noticed I was there. I crossed my arms in disappointment and looked at them.
"I'm ashamed of you two. Give Philip a good example. You are acting childish and I can't even deal with it. I'm going back to bed and hopefully there won't be anymore fighting happening here. Philip, it's past your bed time, please come. Goodnight." I walked back to the table to take Philip.
"Aw." Philip groaned.
We walked upstairs and I went back to sleep.
————————
I heard the door creak open. Who was it? I thought.
"Y/n? I want to say goodnight." A voice whispered. I sat up from the bed.
"Thank God you're awake." I presumed to be Alexander sat on the bed.
"What happened? Is everything alright?" I asked.
"Everything's fine. I just wanted to say goodnight." He started to leave. I grabbed his sleeve.
"Stay." I tugged him to the bed.
"I can't." He answered.
"Why?" I asked. "My parents have a spare bedroom and the kids could sleep here."
He looked like he was in a hurry.
"I-" he started.
"See? No excuse. Now stay." I got up from the bed and made him follow me to the spare bedroom.
"This is reckless! What if your parents catch us?" He worried
"We're married! They can't control our marriage." I replied.
"..." He stayed quiet. I opened the door to the spare bedroom and found the bed made, untouched. I jumped on it and laid down.
"Come on Alexander." I patted the space next to me.
"I think you've had too much to drink." He commented.
"Why would you say that?" I smiled.
"Because I'm Thomas."
