Devin's PoV -

Tears filled my eyes only for me to blink them away and be blinded once more by the salty tears that fell from my eyes. I crouched down next to a horribly injured Shane, our leader of the Redcloaks and my secret crush. Abeke and a few other Redcloaks had stopped their fighting to spend their time with Shane.

Stead, also know as Alix, as our somewhat Redcloak medic, laid his head over Shane's chest, I watched as Alix blinked back tears. He was Shane's second in command, Alix sat up and looked at us all with sorrow eyes, "He's gone..." was all Alix mumbled as he closed Shane's eyelids for the last time.

A few of the other Redcloaks muttered some appreciative words over Shane's cold body. Alix simply gazed down at his leader's body with pained eyes and an expression of shock that he was now leader. Abeke, pissed at Zerif for making her own spirit animal, Uraza, do this to Shane, turned away from the tragic scene with fire in her eyes. I knew then and there that Zerif would lose this battle.

I simply held Shane's cold hand, I cried over him. I felt so weak, unable to go on anymore. I kissed Shane's hand and laid it over his chest, peacefully. I said goodbye and hello to Shane, then with that I grabbed Shane's dagger and walked over to a narrow cave where I could be alone.

I knew my fellow Redcloaks didn't need me, by the looks in their eyes I knew that the battle, this finally battle, would be over very soon and end with us as the victors. I held Shane's weapon in my shaky hands, I was reminded of all the times Shane and I had fought together, it was too much to bear. I placed his dagger over my heart, "I'll see you soon my love," I smiled a sad smiled and with that I took a deep breath, my last breath of living air and yet for the first time I seen the world in all its beauty, I thrust the blade into my chest.

I pressed with all my strength, my fury, my depression, my love, I put it all into the blow that was supposed to end my life but it didn't penetrate, it was as if some invisible force was pushing against me, in my time of dying. I looked around the dark cave, a few bats hung from the ceiling, watching me with horrified eyes, stalactites hung dripping water, but these were nothing compared to the brilliant white fog that carpeted the cave floor. The mist was thickest around where I knelt, I dropped the blade in pure shock of it all. An amazing loving warmth had came over me with this fog. My eyelids drooped with tiredness and I gave in to it and lay on the floor. I closed my eyes sur coming to sleep. The last thing I saw was a tall muscular figure, dressed in black, yet with the palest white skin and large feather angel wings. This angel was Shane, I fell asleep to his lovely scent of beach wood and the warmth of his wings as he held me close to his chest.

-----
"Devin, Devin, wake up," a voice called to me rousing me awake, I sat up and blinked my now well rested eyes.

"Hello, who are you?" I called back, staring into the darkness of what I would assume was the cave I had fallen asleep in.

"You know who I am," the voice called, yet I could see no one, I followed the sound of his voice.

"S-Shane?" I asked with a stammer of fear yet want, "but y-your..."

"Dead," the voice finished what I was unable to say.

I nodded. "Yes, I am," the voice confirmed my suspicions, "but there is a way you can save me yet, kinda."

"Really, I'll do anything for my Shane!" I smiled with the hope I could somehow save the boy I loved most, the boy I had never admitted my love for.

"Who am I?" the voice asked simply.

"I don't know, I want to believe you are Shane," tears were beginning to fill my eyes again as I called into the darkness, the echo prevented me from differentiating this voice from any I had heard before.

"Then believe it," the voice stated with a twinge of sadness to it, "believe in me, my Devin, my lover!"

"I do believe in you, I want more than anything else to be with you!" I cried into the dark, still chasing the mysterious voice.

"This is the only way to bring me back, Devin," the voice called desperately, "how bad do you want for me to talk with you again!?"

I fell to my knees in pleading, "I want for you to be with me again Shane!" I sobbed, "I can't live without you, Shane, I love you, I've never said that before, but I'll say it now, I need you Shane!"

I collapsed to the ground instantly as if having fainted.
--------

"Devin, I love you too," my eyes blinked open at these words, seconds before a pair of lips were pressed to my own.

I kissed back immediately knowing who it was, my Shane. I ran my fingers through his pale blond hair. Shane's hands gripped around my waist holding me as if he didn't want to let me go. We broke the kiss with both of us gasping for air. "Shane, I love you more then you'll ever know!"

I stared at him, seemingly unreal, he looked the same as I had always known him, wise eyes, blond hair, muscular frame, his normal attire of mainly black clothes, his cute crocodile scales, the only difference was a pair of beautiful white angel wings, unfolded gracefully.

Following my gaze, Shane shifted uncomfortably. "What?" I asked, "your wings are gorgeous."

Shane smiled at my compliment. "Thanks," he blushed, "I'm still getting use to them," he stretched his wings a little as proof.

This triggered the cat in me, I pounced of Shane knocking him onto the floor, I smirked at him. Of course I didn't hurt him though. A feather came loose and I pounced on it as it floated to the ground, I battered at it with my claws extended but ended up cuddling it to my face as I snuggled into Shane's chest.

Shane kissed the top of my head and together we walked out of the cave and back into the battle. Shane stoped just before we exited the cave, "I'm only your guardian angel, no one else will be able to see me now, I'm sorry..."

I hugged him, "Your my guardian angel?" I asked.

"I saved you from.... uh, hurting yourself, permanently," Shane looked away awkwardly, "yeah, you needed me and you loved me the most, so I became your guardian angel."

I smiled at him and couldn't resist a quick hug. I was hoping to show Shane to Alix, besides myself Alix was probably the saddest about Shane's death, sometimes I think he may have even had a crush on Shane, just a guess. My guardian angel and I stepped out into what was now moonlight, how long had I been away? The battle was over and the Redcloak's and Greencloak's flags hung victoriously over the ships in the harbor, with no one around I squealed excitedly and cuddled into Shane while mumbling about how we had won.

Shane ruffled my hair, then the two of us walked into the Redcloak's meeting hall where all the latest news was delivered. Alix stood at the podium giving a speech on how we should honor the sacrifices our friends had made at this battle. Shane walked over to Alix, of course no one else could see him, my boyfriend laid a supportive hand on Alix's back, the tension from the ram boy relaxed immediately.

"What was that, with Alix?" I silently asked Shane when he returned to me.

"It's stressful being a leader and I wanted to help calm him down," Shane smiled down at me.

The two of us found a table, mostly to ourselves, and watched the meeting, this was a bittersweet moment for Shane as he watched his Redcloaks grieving over his loss.
