-----------Conor's PoV -
Little by little the dusty cornfield landscapes changed into small towns then to big cities as I drove. I had lived as a shepherd all my life and now it seemed like a huge change was about to take place, this week I would be transferring to college. I hauled all my belongings in the back of my old rusted truck, I noticed my vehicle was nothing like the other presten brightly colored cars on the road, I felt very out of place in this big city. Finally, I pulled into the school's parking lot, taking my keys with me I made my way to the councilor's office. I knocked on the open door, "Uh, hello Miss, may I come in?"
"Yes, of course, take a seat," the councilor replied and so I sat in front of her desk looking awkwardly around the room, "What's you name, hun?" she asked sweetly.
"Oh, I'm Conor, I'll be a freshman here," I smiled up at her as she searched a list of students.
"Oh, yes, you'll be in dorm number 239," she handed me a pair of keys.
"Thank you," I flashed a nervous smile as I exited her office.
I went back to my truck and carried my things upstairs to my dorm, I wondered who I would share this place with. It was a Saturday and I would start school on Monday, I had one day after today to get settled in. I opened the door to the dorm, it was a cramped space with colorful blue and green walls, two beds faced the door from the other side of the room, I stepped inside and laid my things down on the right side bed. There was a small kitchen area with a mini fridge and microwave, not much else was furnished.
I began setting my things where they belonged. Soon my half of the room didn't look so dull, as I was tidying my bed the door burst open revealing a tan skinned boy with short brown hair, he was of average height. "Oh, you must be my dorm mate, I'm Rollan," he trotted over to his side of the room and threw his belongings onto the bed.
A taller Nilonian neko boy followed Rollan helping him carry his belongings, the boy's cat tail wagged happily. "This is Karmo, he's my neko but he's smarter than most," Rollan smiled proudly, Rollan was probably fairly rich if he owned a neko, they were expensive in their own right but smart ones were even more expensive and incredibly rare.
Karmo blushed a bit at the shorter boy's praise.
"Well, its good to meet you both, I'm Conor, are you a freshman this year?" I asked.
"Yeah, I should be a sophomore but I got held back a year in kindergarten," Rollan half chuckled as he and Karmo began arranging their side of the room.
"I never went to kindergarten, my brothers and I were homeschooled by my mother, we were to far away from any public school," I shrugged.
"Oh, so I take it your not from around here, I've lived all my life in this city, I half hoped to go to college somewhere else but I got a scholarship for here," Rollan was done with arranging his things and so he sat on his bed as I did mine.
"Yeah, I'm a shepherd from a small town quite a ways away, but somehow I managed a scholarship here so this is where I came," I smiled with a hint of sadness as a bout of homesickness over came me.
Karmo was now curled up next to Rollan, his tail wrapped around Rollan's leg, "I'm originally from Nilo," the neko boy purred, "I understand your homesickness, I miss Nilo a lot."
