------------Rollan's (Soaring Falcon's) PoV -
Like I did every morning I crept to the river's edge. The sun was still rising in the sky and it was still pretty dark but across the river I could just make out the figure of Running Wolf. I made a quick check to make sure no one followed me out here, the cost was clear. I stepped out of the brush, not making a sound but Running Wolf saw me. I could see his beautiful smile from here and he waved over to me. He mouthed, "Good morning, Soaring Falcon," in our native language.
I smiled at him and waved back. Running Wolf was from out rival tribe, Eura. We could never see each other outside our daily morning visits to the river. I loved him and I knew he loved me. That's why we risked everything every morning just to see each other. I knew we both worried, what if someone saw us? He still comes to see me every morning and I live for our little visits.
Running Wolf sat down at the river's edge and I did the same. We just smiled at each other and enjoyed the peaceful morning in each other's presence. The ragging river ran between us, separating our love for one another. After a while I knew I should be heading back, my tribe would be wondering where I was. I stood and mouthed to Running Wolf that I was leaving. He nodded and waved bye to me. I sadly hurried back to my tribe knowing I wouldn't get to see him again till tomorrow. There were times when we actually meet, face to face. We meet when the river was low enough to wade across but it had rained much and now the river was full. Trying to swim across that river now would be a death sentence.
"Soaring Falcon, where have you been," Leaping Cat stated as she ran over to me, she was one of the few friends I had and the best warrior in our tribe.
I still couldn't trust to tell her about Running Wolf, I trusted her but that was too big of a risk, "I went for a morning hike," I smiled hoping she believed me.
Leaping Cat smiled, "Oh, by the way the Chief wants to see you, rumor has it you'll be getting a promotion."
"T-thanks," I reply to Leaping Cat before hurrying of to the Chief's hut, he had never asked to speak with me before and I was nervous.
The tribe is now awake and everyone is going about their day as usual. I come to the Chief's hut and I hesitate. His hut is bigger than all the others in our camp. Feathers and plants decorate the outside showing off the prestige of this place. Finally, I nervously enter the hut.
Our Chief sits on his wooden chair by a small fire, the smoke exits from a small hole in the roof. I greet him with a small bow, "Leaping Cat said you wanted to see me."
The Chief's eyes are piercing but he nods approvingly, "Yes, have a seat," he gestures to a small stool nearby.
I do as instructed. "I have a request of you, Soaring Falcon, you are among the bravest in our tribe and I would like to promote you to lead warrior," the Chief pauses a moment and continues, "I need you to lead an attack across the river on tribe Eura."
My breath hitched. That was Running Wolf's tribe, I couldn't do that to him. What If I ended up battling him? However, this promotion was a great honor and no one ever denied the Chief. It was with a heavy heart but I knew I had to accept this offer, "Thank you, Chief, I accept."
