-------------Conor's PoV -
The army of Oathbound surrounded my friends and myself. We fought hard, trying to escape but we were all getting hurt. We all knew this might be where our journey ended. Even with two tokens in our possession we couldn't escape all these Oathbound.
Finally, we made it to the waterfall. All of us were still alive, for now. Meilin and Rollan were the first to jump off the waterfall. Thank Tellun we knew it was safe already, thanks to Rollan. Abeke was the next to jump. That just left Devin and myself along with all the Oathbound. "Come on, Devin, we need to go!" I shouted over to Devin who was still battling the Oathbound, making no move to run away.
"I'm a little busy, Conor, just jump and I'll follow," Devin shouted back to me over the noise of battle.
I knew Devin well enough to know that he was lying, he wasn't planning on following me to safety. He wanted to take care of these Oathbound and I didn't plan on letting him do that alone. Devin and I were a team and we were going to stay that way till the end.
I rejoined the battle, slashing away at the Oathbound. They were already gaining ground on Devin and I, without the help of the others to keep our ground, we were being pushed farther and farther away from our only chance of escape. If we were planing on making our escape we would have to do it quick but somehow I already knew the answer Devin had chosen for himself. No matter how scared I was to leave the other three of my friends I promised I would stay with Devin.
Devin seemed to be thinking the same thing I was, I seen fear and love in his eyes as he glanced my way. He knew our only hope of escape was fading. Then with a determined glance at me, he ran into the group of Oathbound, slicing his way through their ranks with the Wildcat's Claw. He reached the giant statue that was holding the entire cave up. With one swift movement, Devin had chopped clean through the statue. The Wildcat's Claw seemed unfazed. Then Devin's eyes met mine and he shoved me off the waterfall, saving me from the shower of boulders that rained down over Devin and the Oathbound.
I felt a piece of me die as I hit the water. I didn't want to swim. I didn't want to breath anymore, knowing that Devin wouldn't be there to smile at me again. I allowed myself to sink, water filled my lungs. I felt kinda bad that Devin had saved me only for me to die right after. That's when two arms grabbed me and pulled me out of the water. My body betrayed me as I gasped for air. Abeke looked down at me, from where I lay on the grass, coughing water from my lungs. I could tell by her eyes that she knew what I had tried. "W-where's D-Devin," Abeke asked, already knowing the answer.
I sobbed, "B-buried... under t-the cave... c-colapse," I managed to choke out.
Abeke hugged me, "He saved your life, Conor, don't waste what he sacrificed for you," she allowed me to sob into her shoulder.
Rollan and Meilin knelt down next to us. "I'll go tell them everything, just rest here, Conor," Abeke let go and walked off with Rollan and Meilin, all three with tears in their eyes.
I looked above the waterfall at the dust that was clearing. Bolders were piled, one on top of the other, lining the entire mountain top. I thought of Devin, he could have escaped... maybe. He could be trapped, just waiting for me to come rescue him. I glanced over at Abeke and the others. They had their backs to me for the moment, I raced off to the trail that would take me back up the mountain. I had to find Devin, he could still be alive.
I called Briggan out to help me search for Devin. Briggan really didn't like Devin, he kinda hated him, but he knew I was in love with Devin so Briggan put up with him, for my sake. Briggan sniffed along on the trail. It was fairly easy walking till we got to the start of the collapse. Briggan sniffed at the rocks and lead me along Devin's sent trail. I climbed as fast as I could but Briggan was much faster than me. Finally, Briggan let out a whimper and I walked over to where he stood. I hurriedly lifted rock after rock. Briggan lended me some strength to remove the final bolder. With the job done Briggan reappeared as a tattoo, giving me time alone.
The sight made me cry harder. My boyfriend lay crushed by the rocks. His red cloak was draped majestically across his shoulders, his mask lay on the ground next to him. "Devin," I whispered his name as I pulled him to my chest.
He didn't respond. I pressed my lips to his, they were so cold... The Wildcat's Claw lay next to him, still holding all its glory after being buried. I lay Devin down and pressed the blade's tip to my abdomen. I could already feel it's sharp blade through my thick shirt. I pressed in just enough to draw blood. I glanced down at the sword's shiny metal before... ending it.
I blinked twice in amazement. In the reflection of the metal, Devin's face stared back at me with concern in his eyes. He gave me a look that told me I was acting irrationally. Realizing Devin was right, I pointed the blade away from me and Devin's reflection vanished. I kissed the blade where Devin's lips had been moments earlier. I sheeted the sword and took Devin's body in my arms.
I walked back down the trail to find my three friends whispering together with tears in their eyes. I sat down next to them, they all stared at me with concern. Then their eyes moved to Devin. "We should... give him a proper burial," Rollan suggest.
We all nodded and Rollan, Meilin, and Abeke went to find a nice place, giving me a few final moments with Devin. "I'll miss you..." I kissed him and sobbed into his shoulders.
I pulled myself together and went to find the others.
