Devin's PoV -
A few of my friends and I sat at a cafe, drinking tea and eating pancakes. We were on our way back home from a recent battle not too far from our village. Our neighboring clan had tried attacking us late last night but our spy had caught them in the act and immediately reported it to our leader. Moments later our leader sent out troops to intercept them and we had suceded in preventing our enemies from entering our territory. However this was not without casualties and technically speaking if you were basing the victors of this battle purely by the amount that lived verses the amount that died on both sides then we did in fact not win this battle. That should go to show just how many good men we lost.
It was always like this through. We were all cat hybrids where I was from and our tribe has always had a war going with the ram hybrids across the valley. This war has lasted years and years. Longer than the age of our oldest elder. The survivors of the last battle, my self included, had tiredly trudged into this cafe to get a bite to eat before making the long trek back to our village. I was just about to take a sip of my tea when someone's voice peaked my interest, "We really showed them who's boss today, we might not have won but we did severely weaken their numbers," I was growling with anger but the voice continued, "a few more battles like that an we will be ruling this entire valley."
I looked over at where the voice had come from. There was a table of ram hybrids sitting together on the other side of the cafe. All the other cat hybrids from my own troop had quite their talking and were listening to the rams conversation. I had had enough, I wouldn't listen to these barbarians plan our destruction, I would show them what a cat could really do. I angrily stood and walked to the other side of the cafe where the rams sat, "Care to tell that to our face," I hissed, "or would you prefer a one on one fight right here," I wasn't the leader of our tribe but I was still a very high ranking general and I felt it necessary to speak up for my people.
The ram hybrid stood from where he was seated with the rest of his own troop. He was much taller than me and more muscular but I still didn't regret my choice of words, his voice was strong as he spoke, "Well since you offered I think I'll take the second option," it was only now that I seen the many metals on his coat, he was a general too.
I felt the pressure build around me along with the anxiety that hung in the air. My troop ran over to me incase I needed back up. The cafe owners huddled together not knowing whether to interfere or not. "So what do you say general Devin, last man standing claims the win for this battle?" the ram hybrid practically purred as we circled each other.
"You're on, general Alix," I cooed and after that everything went silent.
We both circled each other for awhile as both groups of our soldiers flocked around us. We were looking for each other's weaknesses but I couldn't help but notice how handsome Alix was. I tried hard not to blush at that thought. Of course I had fought Alix multiple times before but I had never really gotten the chance to look at him like this. Alix nearly stumbled over an old floorboard and I seen my chance. With one quick motion I pounced on Alix like he was my prey. My claws were unsheathed and I sliced at his throat. I growled and hissed. He threw curse words at me and tried to knock me off with his horns which I managed to avoid. Our own clans were cheering their general on and finally Alix managed to get a hold on me. He gripped my neck and I was slowly suffocating. I kicked at him trying to get in a hit that would make him let me go. I started to feel dizzy but I knew I couldn't give in to the blackness of unconsciousness. I continued to kick and rake at his hands with my claws. I couldn't stand this much longer, my body was giving up and I felt my eyes roll back into my head. I couldn't remember anything after that.
Alix's PoV -
My clan cheered and Devin's clan was growling at us. I don't feel proud though, I just felt numb. What did I just do? I held Devin's unconscious body in my arms, I tried to be gentle with him. The rest of my clan was either patting my back and congratulating me or spewing insults at Devin's clan. I just stood there in the middle of it all.
