------------Devin's PoV -
- One year prior -
"Hurry home," I smiled and hugged Karmo, I gave him one last goodbye kiss.
"I'll only be gone a day or two, no worries," Karmo replied after we broke the kiss.
"Be safe!" I called as he loaded the boat that would take him on his mission.
Little did I know that may have been the last I ever seen of my boyfriend.
- Flashback over -
Tears feel from my eyes as I remembered Karmo. I poured over papers from where I sat in Karmo's and my room. Books, scrolls, and mission reports covered my desk. Some Redcloaks thought I was crazy to be looking into a cold case. After Karmo's disappearance King had sent out a few Redcloak spies to find him. The spies too went missing. Even though I begged King to send me to look for Karmo he denied my request, after what happened to the spies he wasn't going to risk losing more Redcloaks. After King's death I begged Stead but got the same results.
So here I was, one year later after my boyfriend's disappearance, still pouring over documents relating to the missing Redcloaks and still not knowing weather I should be grieving my boyfriend or not. It was late at night and I was tired, I collapsed onto my bed still holding Karmo's last report.
---------
Dear, KingI regret to inform you but I couldn't find the weapon you were looking for, there was an auction yesterday that it must have been sold at, I think we are a day late for this one. I'll continue looking for the remander of the mission but doubt I will find much.
P.S. - Tell Worthy I miss and love him.
---------King had given me this letter nearly a week after Karmo had gone missing, though he delivered Karmo's message the day it came. I use to yell at King for sending Karmo on the stupid mission in the first place, possible my boyfriend's life for a freaking sword that King thought would someday come in handy. Well that wasn't a fair trade and neither Karmo nor the sword ever came back to our hideout. Now with King gone too I regret everything rude I ever said to him, he didn't know Karmo would go missing. I was crying once more.
I hadn't left The Torch in months, not since we first moved here after King's death. In fact, I haven't gone outside in weeks. I knew I couldn't sleep so I decided to go for a walk instead. I walked along the outside of The Torch where only a few Redcloak's homes were scattered here and there. I didn't even know the location Karmo was in when he went missing, that was classified information. I wondered a little into the woods along a deer trail.
I felt my tail get pulled, I whirled around to see someone I didn't know and they didn't look too happy either. He was an older man, probably in his late thirties, he yanked my tail again, this time harder and dragged me towards him. He pulled out some handcuffs and tried to cuff me but I wouldn't let him. I unsheathed my claws and went straight for his eyes. Soon enough I had him passed out, at least I hope that's all I did to him, there was a large pool of blood by his head.
I searched him for anything useful, a pocket knife, I could use that. I found a feather stuck to his jacket, I plucked it off and the moment I felt its texture I knew it was from a hamerkop, I smelt it and it had Karmo's sent to it. I immediately started sobbing and pressed the feather to my chest, over my heart, Karmo was alive! I kept searching, his jacket had a logo on it but this late at night I couldn't read it so I took it with me. I continued on to the nearest town, someone was stealing Redcloaks, I had to find a disguise and find out where Karmo was.
