Max's Vision

Kiera Reed

Ryder, Alpha and Cyblow left about a hour ago, and I was enjoying the plate of homemade chicken that was served for dinner. The amount of livestock that this town has access to amazes me.

I placed a piece of the savory meat onto my tongue and began to chew. I sat on one of the wooden park bench's by the lake, watching the seagulls and other birds fly overhead as the sun begin to set.

"Kiera" I heard someone speak.

I exhaled, of course my dinner was ruined. I turned to see Maya standing nearby, she moved and sat down across from me on the park bench, her head blocked the sunset.

"Yes?" I asked.

"I know we just discussed this, but you have to let Michelle out of her cell!" Maya argued.

I shook my head, as I stuck another piece of chicken into my mouth after swallowing the first piece.

"You know why I can't" I spoke.

"No? I don't know?" Maya shouted, a few people glanced in our direction.

"Because Maya, it makes me look weak, especially to the members of Alpha's team. Michelle was a prisoner before she came here, and until I can prove that she is otherwise, she will remain a prisoner. Despite her relationship with my friend" I spoke looking at my plate of food.

"Kiera! Maybe you weren't listening to me, Michelle is a good person she would never-"

I slammed my fists down on the park bench suddenly, shutting her up. I pointed the end of my fork at her.

"Listen Maya! No offense but you don't know shit about your sister! I'm sure Jayce would've said the same thing about Ryder before he turned out to be brainwashed and ended up killing every single one of us"

Maya starred at me blankly, shocked of my outburst so I continued.

"People change. I just need to make sure we know who Michelle really is before I let her out of that cell alright?" I asked

Maya nodded.

"Alright, I'll give you time" Maya spoke standing up and stepping away from the park bench, then walking away without saying another word.

I took another bite from my chicken and continued to watch the sunset.

Then another figure blocked the view and sat across the table from me. It was Charles.

"Hello Kiera" he spoke respectfully.

"Hello Charles" I spoke as kindly as I could, but it probably came off as rude. I didn't even bother to look at him, I just continued to pick at my chicken. All this stress of the war is beginning to get to me, not to mention that I saved this man's life. He better have some good reason for speaking to me right now.

"I wanted to talk to you about the decision for joining the Rebellion" Charles spoke.

"Oh?" I asked looking up to him

"Yes, a few other people here who will remain unnamed have asked for me to speak with you about this decision. They want to know why you choose to fight the Mayor?" Charles asked.

I rolled my eyes, I already knew that they're wasn't any "unnamed people" and even if their we're it would still be unlikely that there was enough of them to make a difference to the general vote to fight.

"It wasn't my decision alone Charles. The people spoke, I just gave them the idea"

"The idea to die?" Charles asked, he responded quickly as if it just blurted out without him thinking it through.
