Blown to Pieces
Kiera ReedThe distant cracks of thunder, the constant pounding of rain hiting the mud around me and the wailing of the wind were nothing compared to the three large creations of destruction that sat in front of Sandlock.
No more then five minutes ago the coming storm was the most dangerous threat to us, now that concern has shifted. Quite drastically at that.
"I'll give you all one chance! Surrender! And I won't blow this place to hell!" Major Skeleton shouted through the megaphone.
We were screwed, if we stood our ground Sandlock would turn to dust. I know what those Tanks are capable of, I use to read the manuals for fun back when it was just Bobby and I. I also know what Mayor Talons soldiers are capable of. I knew that if they attacked us, we wouldn't have the manpower to maintain a assault. We'd be dead within minutes.
If we surrendered on the other hand there was a chance, perhaps Mayor Talon will spare the lives of my people. He'd kill me for sure, he's wanted me dead since I escaped the City. But if my people did surrender, then what would be the point?
My people, the people of Sandlock wanted to fight. Cyblow and Maya trained them because they wanted to make a difference. They simply aren't ready yet, but if they surrendered now then the Rebellion would fail and Mayor Talon would always be in power.
"Alpha!" I shouted through the rain, thunder and wind.
"Get as many people as you can, get them on the boats and get out of here" I ordered.
Alpha nodded turned and ran down from the gates wall.
I took a deep breath, and debated my next move. I gripped the pistol to my side, it was strapped in a holster. I pulled the sliver object out from the hostler and turned the safety off.
I knew this wouldn't be enough.
I turned the safety back on and turned to run towards the armory.
I busted the locked door open of Sandlocks armory. We had plenty of weapons, just not a ton of people to use them.
I regret sending out so many of our best fighters, Cyblow, Max, Maya, Ryder any of them would come in handy right now.
I grabbed a M16 off the wall and loaded it, grabbed a few extra magazines and a bullet proof vest. Which I quickly strapped on and walked back out into the rain.
The moment my feet touched the squishy mud however I was thrown off my feet and onto my back as a large explosion blew the rest of the fragile east wooden wall of Sandlock to pieces. Leaving nothing between me and the giant tanks.
"Final warning!" I heard Major Skeleton shout through the Tank's speaker system.
I got to my feet and looked around in surprise as I saw maybe two dozen people loading weapons and setting up sandbags for cover. These people must've been here since before I went into the armory, I just didn't notice them until now.
Alpha walked over to me as the final touches of the sandbags were being added.
"I told you to get out of here!" I shouted over the roaring wind and distant thunder.
"Rielly and Beta are escorting everyone out now, I'm staying! We can't lose this place!" Alpha shouted.
I shook my head, it was a nice gesture but I don't think Alpha understands the power behind these machines.
"Those things will destroy this place Alpha, we can't destroy them unless-" I stopped myself as I saw two men loading RPG's while taking cover behind the sandbags.
