Stage Five
Cassi Slade"Stay low!" I whispered to my unit as we walked through the trenches in between two large pits of the undead. I was currently at the front of the unit, leading them towards the actual outpost. At the Outposts center was the guards, we just needed to get past these trenches without being spotted and we were golden.
Cyblow and Cleaver sat outside the Outpost, they would be roasting the zombies to a crisp on my order.
The general idea of Cyblow taming a dragon amazes me, how did he of all people manage to do that?
It was night now, we decided to wait for nightfall to avoid being detected. The large pits full of the undead circled the Outpost, and each had a electric powered titanium gate, according to Beta with just a push of a button all the zombies could be released.
The trench that we currently creeped down had a wet, gravely stone path. The walls of the trenches were that of some kind of concrete. The roars of the undead surrounding us were unbearable, and the smell was even worse.
All of my strength was focused on keeping out the dark memories of what these things have done to the people I love in the past, not to mention the mortal fear I had of them getting out of the pit.
How much destruction would they cause if they broke free?
"Hey Cassi?" I heard Cyblow's voice ask over our short range communication devices we had, I had mine as a earpiece.
I clicked the button on the side of my ear piece and spoke.
"Bad timing Cyblow, what is it?" I asked probably sounding rude, but we were getting close to the actual base now and I needed to be on high alert.
"Well, its just that, I was doing a circle of the base like you asked right. And I found that nearly four of the pits are completely empty"
I stopped dead in my tracks. Why would four of the pits be empty? Did they decide to kill some of the zombies? Perhaps the pits were never full of zombies at all?
A storm of fear came over me now, if there were zombies in those pits then where are they now? Are they being used against my allies right now?
"Look out!" someone shouted bringing me back to reality. I heard several gunshots from up ahead.
I pushed past the members of my unit to get to the front again, and I found Beta, holding a smoking rifle pointed in the direction of a corpse with bullet holes in it.
"He was a guard, I panicked, I-" Beta trailed off.
Before I even had a chance to respond to Beta a bright red light started blinking above the pits, and a loud siren blared in our ears.
We were busted.
"Everyone fall back!" I shouted but it was to late, I heard the crack of the titanium doors swinging open as the zombies piled out from the pits and into the trenches with us.
Two doors opened on either end of the trench, one door from each pit.
I pushed Beta behind me and pulled the Katana from my back.
"Get back!" I shouted swinging at the nearest zombie. Shadow jumped to my side and charged at one of the undead, knocking it over causing several of the others to fall to the ground.
I started taking steps back, the zombies had already become overwhelming. Beta swung a sledgehammer down on the skull of a zombie as my unit started panic shooting at the undead horde.
"We need to get out!" I shouted turning back and pushing past the crowd of scared soldiers. I found Alpha unloading her assault rifle at the zombies entering from the other set of doors.
