From Bad to Worse
Jayce SladeIt was a celebration, sure not everyone was on board with the idea of partying it up yet. But that didn't stop the persistent ones.
After all, even if we lose now, we have made a major dent in Major Skeleton's forces, we still waited on the Dead Farm's team to radio in however. It's early in the morning, probably just after midnight and still no call from Cassi or her team.
I sat up on the front gate of the Dojo, looking out at the Mountains, hoping to see something, anything.
I worried about so much, I hoped Charity survived the attack on her outpost, Claw's did radio in saying that they took the outpost, but she never said whether or not she had any causality's. I worried too about Cassi and her team of course, and naturally I worried the most about Ryder.
I knew Ryder was in danger, and a part of me wanted to jump the gate's fence and go find him again, just like I did when the world went to shit. But could I do it alone? Could I do it without Dante?
I have changed so much as a person since that sweaty, crossbow wielding dough head saved my life for the first of many times. I was the leader of a Rebellion now, fighting for the control of a entire world.
I was scarred.
Could I do this without the help of Dante? Could I do it without Ryder?
Three figures appeared on the path below, two of them were carrying a third. As they came closer I realized that it was Cassi, Alpha and Beta.
I quickly jumped down from the top of the gate, unhooked the lock on the door and opened the gate door wide.
"She's been bitten!" Cassi wailed.
My heart sank, as I looked at Alpha, she was pale and sweating like a madman. I instantly started to think about how they cured Ryder and Maya in our old world, perhaps they have so sort of cure here too?
They must, they have a baby growth accelerator for crying out loud.
A group of medical staff appeared to take Alpha from Cassi and Beta, Sarah was among them. They took Alpha to the medical wing, and Beta followed her inside.
I just walked straight to Cassi, and pulled her into a hug.
"How are you holding up?" I asked looking around, realizing that the other members of there group must be dead.
"I'm fine, but I just got a whole group of people killed. Sorry Jayce" Cassi cried into my shoulder.
I pulled back from the hug, realizing that even Cyblow and Cleaver weren't back yet, did the Dragon actually die?
"Where's Cyblow and Cleaver?" I asked.
"Last I heard they were fine, Cyblow had to fall back, Cleaver got tired and he couldn't risk her. My radio died on the way back here and I don't know if he's okay now." Cassi trailed, going into deep thought.
"I'm sure Cyblow is fine, probably just stopping for drive-thru before he makes his grand entrance here" I joked, I realized she was no longer paying attention to me. She was starring at the ground, off in her own world.
"You okay?" I asked.
She snapped back to reality and nodded.
"I saw Dante, he was there during the ambush. He killed Rielly, I just let him run, I couldn't kill him Jayce- I couldn't do that to him" She spoke, tears on her face.
"Its okay" I spoke pulling her into a hug.
I realized for the first time that there was no man's best friend companion following Cassi around. Where was Shadow?
