Chapter 39

***Conrad's POV***

Napaaga ang flight ko as what I have decided dahil gusto ko na ring matapos at malaman kung mabubuhay pa nga ba ako ng matagal o hindi na....

Hindi ko na rin nagawang magpa-alam kay Edward 'coz I don't want him to worry about this.

A big part of me says that I should fight this sickness. Kung hindi ko lang siguro nakita ulit si Lorena baka mas madali kong matatangap ang early death ko kung sakali. Pero ngayon, it seems I got an extra reason to fight...

Nasa Chicago, Ilinois na ako ngayon at bukas ang schedule ng aking check-up sa isang prostate cancer specialist.

Naisipan kong tawagan si Ricardo para makibalita.

"Hello Pare! I'm here in Chicago at the moment. Bukas na ang schedule ko with a specialist. Kung sakaling magtanong si Edward pakisabi may importante lang akong aasikasuhin dito. Please don't ever try to tell him about this.."

"Nice to hear na nandyan ka na Pare. At least ginagawan mo na agad ng paraan yan. You have a lot of reasons to live longer Pre. Wag na wag kang mawawalan ng pag-asa.... Nga pala I have a slight problem here. Si Maya gusto na magresign dahil sa nangyari..."

"What?! Pre wag na wag mo papayagan! Wag mo silang hayaang magpakalayo-layo ulit. Please assure me na sa pagbabalik ko makita ko sila ulit. Please use all your resources at alamin mo kung saang probinsya sila tumira and anything about them... Please Pre... Do this for me..."

"Ako na ang bahala. Sinabi ko sa kanya na mag-indefinite leave muna para maka-pag-isip. Di lang naman kasi si Lorena ang problema ni Maya... Pati si Edward..."

"Anong kinalaman ni Edward kay Maya? Alam na ni Edward about me and Maya's mom?"

"No Pre. Ito kasing anak-anakan mong ubod ng gwapo eh napapa-ibig na ang anak ni Lorena. Tss! May pinagmanahan! Eh yung anak ko naman, nasasaktan na yata kasi di naman yata nililigawan ni Edward or I don't know... or ang alam ni Maya eh may girlfriend tong si Edward... Sabi sa akin ni Maya hindi na niya kaya ang sitwasyon niyang ganon kaya she thought of resigning... dagdag pa nga yung sitwasyon din ng mama niya sayo... Hirap talaga ng mga gwapo noh?.. Tsk!..."

"Really?! Sure ka ba diyan Pare? Maya is also falling for Edward? Well that's great! I know Edward. I can feel that he also has feelings for Maya Pre. Ayaw pa lang talaga umamin. Ma-pride eh!"

"Mana sayo! Kung ako sa kanya, niligawan ko na iyan si Maya. Naku wala na siyang makikitang katulad ni Maya.. Tsk! Mukhang mauunahan pa yata siya ni Tristan... Hina kasi ng anak mo Conrad... Napapansin ko din naman ang mga kilos niya... I just don't know what hinders him from courting Maya. Well, approve naman siya sa akin para kay Maya kung sakali... Wag niya lang lolokohin... Eh ikaw Pre, do you like Maya for Edward?"

"As much as I do... pero hangat hindi ko nasi-settle ang sa amin ni Lorena mukhang madadamay ang sitwasyon nila ni Maya. Kawawa naman ang mga bata.. Alam mo naman kung hangang saan ang galit sa akin ni Lorena. Baka pagbawalan niya si Maya na makipagkita kay Edward, sa akin or even sainyo..."

"Maya told me na ayaw naman daw ng mama niya na magresign siya. Pero para na rin daw sa kapakanan ng lahat.."

"Pre! Please do everything you can... Help me on this please..."

"Oo na wag mo nang alalahanin ang lahat dito. Basta magpagaling ka dyan at bumalik ka kaagad dito. Please update me on the status of your check up at kung anong mga tests ang gagawin sayo.. Anytime pwede naman ako sumunod diyan sayo. Just let me know..."

"Wag na. Ikaw na lang ang inaasahan ko diyan. Promise, I'll do my best here and I'll take all the possible options... Basta update mo rin ako ng tungkol sa kanila..."

"Alright.. Sige na. Prepare yourself for the check up... Anuman ang result, let's face it and fight for it... okay?"

"Samalat Pare... I'll update you with everything... Okay, I'll call you again..."

"Okay Pre.. Ingat diyan. Bye!"

***Edward's POV***

I called Maya's office and her subordinate told me that she's on an indefinite leave?!

Why? Why did she file for it?

It seems that I won't get any answer unless I talk to Tito Rick, the only one who approved her filed leave of absence.

I went straight to his office and he seemed that he just had a phone conversation...with Uncle?

"Okay Pre, ingat diyan bye!" and he hang up the phone.

"Hi Tito Rick!"

"Oh son! You're here... How can I help you?"

"Was that Uncle?"

"Yeah. He's in Chicago right now. He said he's working on some things. He just assured me that everything is fine with him and he asked for some updates here.."

"What? Why that early? He didn't tell me. I thought it would be in two weeks. Do you have any idea what he's working on with?"

"Nope. He didn't say anything else. He just said he will work on some things and take a vacation after.."

"Alright. Hope he's fine... I'll call him later. Anyway Tito, I just wanna know why Maya had to take an indefinite leave. Is she sick or something?"

"That I'm not sure of. It's just a personal reason she said... But if you want to know about it, you can call her. You have her number right? But if you're worried of her duties, I'll be taking over."

"Nope Tito. It's just kinda surprising... knowing how she's dedicated to her job. There must be a strong reason behind it...."

"Yeah. It might also be because of her mom. She said she's here in Manila for a visit."

"Really? I wanna meet her!"

"What? Why?!"

"Uhm, I mean I haven't seen her mom yet... We talked about her before... Anyway, forget it Tito Rick. Thanks for the info, though! I'll go ahead."

"Ah, I think it's not a good idea right now... I mean to meet her mom. You know they were not together for quite some time so they needed quality time for each other?"

"I understand Tito... Anyway, I'll go ahead... Maybe I'll just call her later after I talk to Uncle."
