Chapter 5: The Truth

"Well here it is," said Sentoki," I hope Professor Oak can help me."

Sentoki and Squirtle walked inside the lab as Sentoki lifted his shades to his head. "Professor Oak?" Sentoki said.

A door opened and out came Professor Oak. "Hello Professor!" said Sentoki with joy.

"S-S-Sentoki? Is that you?" asked Professor Oak with amusement.

"Ever since birth," Sentoki replied.

"It's been years since I've last seen you and your father."

"About my father Professor Oak," said Sentoki," Do you know anything about him?"

"I do know that he was captured by Team Rocket," said Professor Oak.

"Yes I know that but do you know why?" asked Sentoki.

Professor Oak sighed and scratched his head. Finally, he said," Your father and I were on the verge of discovering a legendary Pokemon that was seen only by a few people and trainers."

"Is the Pokemon Mew?" asked Sentoki.

"Yes," replied Professor Oak," Mew is one of the strongest Pokemon known to man.

"What does Team Rocket want to do with it?"

"Mew is the ancestor of all Pokemon. There are millions of things Team Rocket can do with such power. After all, that's what they want."

"I read a note from my father. He said they didn't get you but they managed to get him."

"Sentoki, that's a lie," said Professor Oak with disappointment.

"What do you mean?"

"Team Rocket didn't come after me. They came after your father."

"Why?"

"I-I don't know," Professor Oak was trying his hardest to answer the boy's answers, "Maybe there are things that he knows that I don't. Or perhaps it was bad luck that they targeted him instead of me. I don't know, Sentoki. I want to answer all of your questions but I just don't have the answers," Oak explained with a poor tone.

Sentoki looked at the floor, helpless.

"Was your mother there that night?" Oak asked.

Sentoki nodded with his head still slumped.

"Then that means they've gotten her too," the Professor said to himself, "They're coming after you. They're going after you, Sentoki."

Sentoki looked up, his facing saying "You have three seconds to explain."

"You have to run. You have to get out of Kanto, this region isn't safe for you. Get to Johto as soon as you can. You have your Pokemon to protect you. I'm sorry, Sentoki, but that's the truth. You have to run," Oak pleaded.

Sentoki shook his head in disagreement, "No, Professor Oak. I am going to rescue my father. I promised myself that. I don't care if Team Rocket is going after me during the process. Nothing will get in between me and rescuing my father."

Suddenly, an iron cage dropped on Sentoki.

"Nothing but this cage," Sentoki said.

Professor Oak jumped behind his desk and threw out his Machamp.

"Who the hell did that?!" yelled Sentoki with anger.

The door blew down and 3 Rocket grunts walked into the lab, raiding the books and drawers. Secretly, he let out his Elekid.

"Go," whispered Sentoki to Elekid. Elekid slipped through one of the bars and snuck up from behind one of the Rocket grunts.

"Thunder Wave!" he yelled.

"Eleeeeeeeeekid!!!" yelled Elekid as he transferred 300 volts of electricity to the Rocket grunt. Distracted, the other two Rocket grunts ran to Sentoki. "Now Machamp!" yelled Professor Oak from behind the desk. Machamp jumped from behind the grunts and used Mega Punch. The Rocket grunts were on opposite sides of the room. They quickly sent out their Pokemon, Arbok, Weezing, and Gengar.

"Return Elekid," said Sentoki as he switched to Tepig," Tepig, use Ember on the bars!

Tepig used Ember and the bars began to heat up and melt.

"Okay, Squirtle used Skull Bash!"

Squirtle Skull Bashed the bars and he jumped out. "Professor! Guard the Pokemon!" commanded Sentoki. Professor Oak nodded and ran through a pair of double doors. Sentoki reached for another Pokeball and sent out Dratini. "Bring it!" he yelled. The Rocket grunts stood up. "Arbok use Bite!" commanded a Rocket grunt. The Arbok charged for Squirtle. "Squirtle, withdraw!" Squirtle went into his shell as the Arbok bit into its hard shell. "Now use Water Gun!" Squirtle blasted water into Arbok's mouth, making it release Squirtle. Squirtle jumped out and Sentoki yelled,"Use Tackle Tepig!" Tepig ran up and rammed Arbok in the chest, making it fly back and faint.

"Weezing use Smoke Screen!" said another Rocket grunt. "Dratini use Twister and make it quick. Dratini cooed made a tornado, making the smoke disappear. When the smoke was cleared, Squirtle jumped out and used Skull Bash, knocking back the Weezing and making it faint.

"Gengar use Dizzy Punch!" Gengar ran up to Tepig and tried to punch it. Squirtle came out from behind and used Water Gun. The attack wasn't enough to make Gengar faint but it did damage. Gengar turned around and used Mega Punch on Squirtle, making Squirtle fly back to Sentoki. "You did great," said Sentoki. Soon, Gengar hit Tepig and sent him flying to Sentoki. "You were awesome," said Sentoki," Dratini! It's up to you! Gengar attacked Dratini but Dratini dodged all the attacks. "Thunder Wave attack!" said Sentoki. Dratini zapped Gengar and jumped back. "Finish it with Iron Tail!" Dratini jumped and hit the Gengar in the face. Gengar fell over and fainted. The Rocket grunts, amazed, called back their Pokemon and left the building. One of them at the doorway said," You did well, Sentoki." Then he left. Professor Oak came back and said," You and your Pokemon did well in your first battle."

"Thanks," said Sentoki as he was hugging his Pokemon.

"You beat 3 Rocket grunts. That's impressive, even for your first battle."

"Too bad my father isn't here to see this."

"Are you sure about this?" Professor Oak asked with assurance, "You really want to risk your life and search for your parents?"

"I'm positive. I won't stop at nothing to find them. If Team Rocket gets in my way, I'll take them down, one-by-one. And well, it was my childhood dream to become a Pokemon Master."

The Professor exhaled through his mouth and nodded firmly. "Then you're going to need something." He reached into a drawer.

"What is it?"

"A Pokedex."

"My father had one. What is it?"

"It's a portable encyclopedia all about Pokemon. It is a great tool that will significantly help you become a Master and help find your father. Take it," said Professor Oak as he handed Sentoki a blue Pokedex.

"Thanks a lot Professor. I'll use it whenever I can," said Sentoki as he put it in his light blue jacket pocket.

"I only give Pokedexes to people who I trust and to people that I think are worthy of having it."

Sentoki looked around. The tables were scattered, chairs are broken, and books are destroyed and ripped.

"Professor, this mess. Let me help you clean," said Sentoki as he bent down to pick up a book.

"It's fine Sentoki. I'll call my grandson Blue to help me. He's coming home anyway."

"Are you sure Professor Oak?"

"Yes yes! You have a mission to accomplish and I'm supporting you on it. Go ahead," said Professor Oak.

"Will do."

Sentoki left Professor Oak's lab with his shades on and began to walk down the path that leaves Pallet Town. On the largest hill, he looked at his hometown. "I'm gonna miss this place," said Sentoki. He turned around and looked at the sign that had an arrow pointing forward and read VIRIDIAN CITY.

"That's where the closest gym is," said Sentoki.
