Chapter 35: The Birds of Route 2

"Why is Route 2 so quiet?" asked Sentoki as they walked.

"Beats me. As long as we get there in time, we should be fine," Kimyona shrugged off.

There was a rustle in a nearby tree.

"Huh?" said Hikaru as she went to investigate.

She, with Sentoki and Kimyona behind, walked through some trees and discovered a group of Pidgey and Pidgeotto hiding in the trees.

"What's wrong with them?" Hikaru asked Pichu. The Pokemon were shaking with fear. Pichu signaled behind them. They turned around and found a flock of Spearow and Fearow heading towards them.

"I know what's going on! They're scared of them! Pidgeotto! Help us out!" Kimyona said.

Pidgeotto was taken out and went towards the Spearow and Fearow. The Spearow and Fearow landed and watched as Pidgeotto tried to reason for the helpless Pidgeys and Pidgeotto's. Fearow, the leader, didn't care and used Drill Peck. Pidgeotto shot back and hit its head on a tree. Sentoki let out Dinamika, Hikaru let out Charizard who joined Pichu, and Kimyona let out Arcanine.

"We gotta battle for the helpless birds and for Pidgeotto!" Kimyona told her friends

"Right!" agreed Sentoki and Hikaru in unison.

Dinamika tried to avoid shock attacks since it might go out of control and harm the helpless birds. Dinamika got its fists ready and started attacking with Thunder Punch. Charizard, with Pichu on its back, flew into the air so Pichu could get distance, since its electricity is not powerful enough to travel far distances. Arcanine used its quick speed to make them dizzy so Dinamika could finish them off. When it looked like a clear victory, all the Pokemon were shot back by an Air Slash.

"What the?!" Sentoki yelled.

A kid in a purple cape came from the other direction.

"Who are you?" Hikaru asked.

"Who am I? Well the question is, who are you!" said the kid.

"We're Pokemon trainers on the way to Viridian Gym," Kimyona informed him.

"Hmpf. How many badges do you got?"

"Seven."

"Hah. If you've been that many gyms, then that means you're strong enough to battle me."

"I don't think you've answered our question. Who are you?!" Sentoki said a little too loud.

"I am Kiga, King of the Bird Pokemon!"

"Bird Pokemon? Hmpf," Sentoki scoffed.

"Well I'll let you pass, if one of you can defeat me....."

"Sounds simple," Kimyona said getting ready to battle.

".....with a Bird Pokemon."

"Not simple," Hikaru added.

Suddenly, there was a huge gust of wind and a large bird landed in front of them and opened its wings, trying to block them.

"Wait. Pidgeotto?! You evolved into Pidgeot while we weren't paying attention!" Kimyona said gleefully.

Pidgeot turned its head with a smirk.

"Well there you have it. Me versus this girl. You ready?"

"Ask my Pidgeot!"

Pidgeot was diving down with a Quick Attack. Kiga's Pidgeot jumped and flew in the air. Pidgeot swooped down and chased after the other Pidgeot.

"Hikaru, let's leave Kimyona alone. We'll finish off the others," Sentoki said.

They ran off to deal with the other Fearows and Spearows.

Dinamika, Charizard, Icer, and Pichu stood there, ready to attack and drive the angry birds out of Route 2.

Dinamika attacked with more Thunder Punches and Electro Balls. Charizard and Pichu repeated the same strategy as before. Icer fired Ice Beams and tried to freeze the other Pokemon so Pichu and Charizard could deal with them.

Hikaru glanced over at Kimyona's battle. The two Pidgeots were at each other in mid-air! They were using combinations of Aerial Ace, Quick Attack, and Twister.

"Hikaru! There's more!" Sentoki shouted.

"Huh?"

More and more Spearow were flying in and joining in the battle! Sentoki had to let out Dragonair and Rambo. Hikaru ran ahead to see if there were more. She came back and told Sentoki that there's no other Spearow coming. Hikaru let out Absol, Zorua, and Vulpix. Soon, they began to drive them away, one by one.

"We need more power!" Sentoki said.

Dinamika, Dragonair, and Icer grouped together and came up with a plan. Icer got onto Dragonair's tail and was fired into the air. It used Ice Beam as it went up then came back down. Dinamika ran and caught Icer. Dragonair climbed onto the ice bridge Icer made and used Thunder Wave to take out at least 10 Spearow. Dragonair then smashed the bridge with Dragon Tail. Shards of ice began to fall. Dinamika used Electro Ball which caught the ice shards. The Electro Ball was able to take out around 20 Spearow.

"Oh man. I might regret this but Tabak, Berserk! We need you!" Sentoki said, releasing them.

"You too, Riolu!" Riolu came out upon hearing being in battle.

Soon, all the Spearow have retreated. They looked up and it was clear that one Pidgeot was overpowering the other. The only problem is: they can't identify which is which!

"Hey, Kiga! If you're so powerful, then why would you only keep Route 2? Why don't you go for something longer like Victory Road?" asked Kimyona with suspicion.

"Wha-What do you mean?" Kiga said, taken aback.

"You're scared. If you were so powerful, you'd conquer a large route, not Route 2."

"What?"

One Pidgeot used Gust, then followed up with multiple Quick Attacks. It then used Whirlwind and made the other start spinning. It then flew up then came down with a Steel Wing attack. The other Pidgeot got hit in the chest and fell to the gravel road.

Kiga looked down at the Pidgeot.

"Get outta here," Kimyona said to him.

Kiga withdrew Pidgeot and made a run for his life.

"That was amazing!" exclaimed Hikaru.

"Nice Pidgeot," Sentoki said as Kimyona pet Pidgeot.

They cooled down and made their way for Viridian City. They ate dinner, contacted Lance, and slept at the hotel. For the next day could be the hardest battle they might fight in the beginning of their journey!
