taehyung reached for his ringing phone and answered the call after reading the caller id displayed on the screen.
"yes jimin?" taehyung said as he grabbed a few documents on his desk and arranged them with his free hand.
"you did not forget about the dinner tonight with the boys, right?" jimin spoke in the other end with suspicion in his voice.
"of course not." taehyung denied, clicking his tongue. "did you call just to remind me that? you know that i'm still at work, right?"
"i do," jimin answered. "but you're getting off of work in like..." a pause in the other line. "exactly seven minutes."
taehyung glanced at his wrist watch and found that jimin was indeed right. "okay, chim. what do you want?"
"oh yeah, well i didn't call just to remind you about tonight." jimin elaborated. "you see, my car broke down this morning and i was wondering if you could give me a ride."
taehyung sighed. "okay, fine."
"you're a great friend, tae." jimin chimed. "thanks. so can you pick me up at my house?"
"yeah, yeah." he mumbled. "i still have to finish up things here. i'll see you later, jimin."
with that, they ended the call. and just like he said, taehyung went ahead and finished up his work with the remaining time he had left. once done, he grabbed his stuff and exited his office.
"taehyung-ssi!" the familiar cheerful voice chirped behind him. "wait for me!"
taehyung was pulled back from walking when tiny hands grabbed his arm and clung onto him tight, preventing him from going forward. he bit his lower lip as he glanced down to find his colleague peering up at him with her usual friendly smile.
"what's up, jennie?" taehyung flashed an identical smile as hers, reminding himself to be polite. "are you heading home now too?"
jennie nodded. "supposedly, but i was wondering if you wanna go out for dinner then i wouldn't have to go home right away. what do you think?"
"i would love to, jennie." taehyung responded, frowning to show that he felt bad. "unfortunately, i already have plans with my friends tonight. i'm sorry."
jennie pouted at the rejection. "i'm aware that i can be really annoying, but you're not refusing my offer because of that, right?"
taehyung chuckled, "what do you take me for, jen? of course it's not like that. i really do have plans tonight. if you want, i can even send you a picture as evidence."
a huge grin slowly formed on the girl's face as she let go of taehyung's arms and straightened herself up. "really?" she squeaked, adorably. "promise?"
he nodded. "promise."
"alright, then." jennie smiled. "i shouldn't keep you any longer. i'm leaving. see you tomorrow, taehyung-ssi."
"see you." he waved as jennie walked away.
fishing for his car keys, taehyung also left the building and headed to his car. starting the engine, he drove off to pick up jimin, as he agreed to.
when he arrived at his house, he immediately dialed jimin and informed him of his arrival. soon enough, jimin came out of the door.
"thanks a ton, tae." jimin said once he entered he car. "i owe you."
"then treat me food some time." taehyung suggested as he began to drive away.
"fine."
with the radio playing in the background, jimin and taehyung conversed about their day and how they have been doing since they last saw each other, which was about two weeks ago.
"hey jimin," taehyung uttered hesitantly without looking at his friend.
"yeah?"
"is..." he muttered. "h-how is she doing..?"
jimin turned to look at taehyung, perfectly knowing who he was talking about. last week, jimin and his family had travelled to jeju island to attend his sister's graduation. he hadn't seen her for almost a year since their family spent a month in jeju last year. their only way of communicating was by texts, calls or by video calls. when jimin saw her, he couldn't help but notice how she had become more beautiful and behaved. she had become someone more matured and responsible than before. it was almost hard to believe that she was the same person.
jimin switched his gaze from taehyung to the road and let a gentle small smile develop on his plump lips.
"sooyoung's doing great." jimin replied. "she's changed so much since i last saw her, and i mean it in a positive way. she's more beautiful, and can you believe it?! she grew taller! thank God i remain superior by height. i swear if she surpasses me, i might have to ─ actually, i wouldn't know what to do. i guess you will just have to anticipate my priceless reaction. oh wait, no. don't even try anticipate it because it won't happen. let's pray that it doesn't. amen."
taehyung chuckled, hearing this.
"but really," jimin continued. "sooyoung's doing perfectly fine. she's great."
taehyung smiled sincerely. "that's...good to hear."
