"Ember?" I reluctantly asked.

"Hmm you actually remember my name. That's rare." She said

I ignored her remark and rested my head on my knees.

"I'm sorry about what happened in the cafeteria." She apologised.

She moved closer to me and sat beside me. I moved away from her and looked the opposite direction from where she was sitting.

"I understand you're a loner and so am I." She spoke again.
"And I want to help you Maia."

"Look I appreciate this and all but no thanks. I'm gonna die alone, there's no need for me to drag you or Cade along with me." I said as more tears streamed down my face.

"Cade huh? So Max was right."

"Right about what?" I asked.

"About his best friend having a thing for you. Max told me Cade sort of liked you that night of the party but I thought he was just hitting his usual one night stands. But I guess Max was right. You two are dating?"

"Yeah but at this rate we won't last." I told her.

She moved closer to me and lifted my chin so I could face her.

"Your eyes are so red and puffy and your temperature, it's high." She said.

"Thanks doctor." I said as I was starting to get really annoyed.
I stood up, grabbed my bag and made my way to the door.

"I'm just tryna help you Maia, c'mon." Ember said.
"And you can't learn like this, you don't look well. I'll take you home." And offered.

"No thanks Ember. I appreciate this but I don't want to drag you to hell with me." I told her again.

This time I slammed the door in her face and made a run for it down the hallways. I don't even know if she followed me or not. All I knew is I had to get home.

Upon arriving home, I saw a note in the kitchen. It read;

'Hey honey, I'll see you home at around 8 in the evening... xoxo.'

I placed the note inside my pocket and locked all the doors.
I went up to my room.
I tossed my pair of broken glasses to the other side of the room and braided my hair. I looked at myself in the mirror and I could hardly recognise myself. I had cried enough for today so I went to take a nap...

I was woken up by the sound of knocking on the front door. I desperately wanted it to be Cade checking up on me so I raced downstairs to go open. To my dismay it was Ember and Max.

Before they could say a thing. I closed the door and started walking back to my room. I didn't want any help. I didn't want these guys all up in my business.

"Oh c'mon Maia, we are here to help." Said Ember.

"Yeah and you can never fix your problems by running from them." Max said.

I breathed in and finally decided to open the door for them. I invited them up to my room and brought them something to snack on.

"So basically you guys are interested in helping me?" I asked.

They both nodded.

"You're a good girl Maia and we both know that Jack really did cheat on her with her new friend Kendall, and personally I think you deserve better as a person." Max spoke up.

"I agree with Max and from now onwards, you are our new friend. And trust me, we won't let you down." Ember promised.

"You swear on it?" I asked.

"I put my life on the line for it." said Ember.

We laughed a little and then something that was bothering me hit me.

"Wait, where's Cade?" I asked.

"Oh uhh, he uhh went home right after school." Max said.

"Why? I mean he didn't even call me or text me or anything." I said sounding worried.

"Well I'm not sure about that." Max responded.

"Oh. Does he know what happened during recess?" I asked.

"Yeah." Max said, his face suddenly showing sympathy for me.

So Cade knows that Kendall and Alison were practically bullying me in front of the whole school during recess and he doesn't even care?
Wow... just wow!

"Are you okay?" Ember asked.

I nodded even though deep inside I was hurt.
We chatted for some hours and they finally decided to go home. I hugged them goodbye and sat in my room in cold silence for the rest of the night.

How could the silence be so loud? This is exactly what I feared. What could be going on with Cade. I stared at my phone for hours expecting a call or a text but nothing.

Just nothing...
