Time passed by and it was really getting late.
Ember and Max said they had made a reservation for themselves at a fancy hotel.

"We have to get going guys." Max announced.

"You're right." Ember answered.

The four of us made our way to the driveway.
Surprisingly, Ember pulled me back.

"We need to talk." She said sternly.

We went up to my room and my heart was racing even faster as each second passed by.

"What was that about girl?" She asked.

"What was what about?"

"Don't act so dumb Maia. That hurling up thing." She said.

"Oh my stomach must've been a little upset." I lied.

"Oh yeah? From what?"

"What's with the interrogation? How should I know?" I asked her getting defensive.

A tear found it's way down my left cheek. And I couldn't help it. It's like Ember could read my mind.

"What's going on? Maia you can't lie to me. I'm only interested in helping you. And being there for you. I can't do that if you keep secrets from me like this."

"Fine. You got me alright. I messed up. I messed it all up Ember." I told her barely holding back the tears.

I sat on my bed and placed my hand on my belly.

"There's a Harrison inside of me." I told her.

"When did you find out?" She asked as she knelt down in front of me.

"Today." I said.

"Oh gosh. Maia, you're going to have to tell him." I told her.

"Now? Not with all that's going on. I was raped, they don't even know where the hell that bastard is! Ahh my life is a mess. Now I'm pregnant. The quietest girl in school, the shy one, the one who nobody likes, the one without friends... is the one who ends up pregnant." I cried.

She put her hands on my shoulder and tilted my head up.

"Look. You are an amazing young woman. You have a boyfriend that loves you. A mother who's always there for you. Friends, who adore you regardless of what you've gone through. You think we'll disown you because of this?" She questioned.

"It's not just about that. I've disappointed my mother. She expects better of me. She'll feel bad cause I didn't grow up with a father figure. And what will people say at school. And the graduation Ember! What will I do?"

"Shut up. This isn't about that. Your belly won't be that big. You can wear peplums."

"What about college?" I asked.

"You can take a year off at home." She suggested trying desperately to keep my spirits high.

"But that's not how a baby us supposed to be raised." I said getting up going to the window.

She followed after me.

"You won't be alone. You have your mom and Cade. They're family to the little baby. C'mon you can't be giving up now Maia. I know you're stronger than that. And fuck what people will say or think. It's your baby to carry not theirs." She said.

She was talking sense but all I could do was cry.

She turned me so that I could face her and she wiped my tears.

"Wipe those tears and put on a smile, your suffering will not last forever. And remember pain is inevitable but suffering is optional."

I cried more.

She gave me a warm comforting hug.

"Your secret is safe with me." She said as she pulled out of the hug.

"What secret?" Cade asked as he popped into the room.

We turned to face him and I just wiped my tears so he wouldn't see me crying.

"Aww baby are you crying?" He asked.

"No- uhh I just got a little emotional. Ember was just telling me how happy she is that we're closer now." I lied.

"Girl talk, you wouldn't understand." Ember backed me up.

"Oh okay... and secrets." He said.
"Anyways Max said you guys need to go now cause you'll be late." He added.

"Oh yeah. Bye guys. See you tomorrow at school and don't do anything naughty." She winked and left.

It was just me and Cade in my room and it was already dark...
