JP Cooper- Birthday
"Ain't got nothing on you
If it was my birthday
I'd be opening presents
And hoping to have it from you
'Cause you always make it better
Baby, I ain't got nothing on you
If it was my birthday
I'd be blowing out candles
And wishing for someone like you
One dance no "you's"Maia
The birthday song never gets old. I was an early bird for Cade's birthday. I sang him my own customised birthday song.
"Thank you Maia, now where's my birthday kiss?"
"You big baby. I love you." And I kissed him.
"Now, birthday sex?"
"Calm down Harrison." I said laughing.
We showered and went down for his birthday breakfast. His parents were happy.
"And to think we'd have to be calling you to say happy birthday." Said Janelle.
"We owe it to Maia." Said Mark.
"It's the least I could do. Cade has been so good to me and now that he's no longer a teenager, I hope he's more mature now." I joked.
"We all hope so Maia." The parents laughed.
"So, son, we have to make up for lost time now. How bout our good ol' basketball games? Are you up for it?" Mark said to Cade.
"Of course Dad! Let's do this." He said, very enthusiastic.
"Well you boys go have fun. Maia and I, are going shopping."
My eyes widened. Shopping?
"Let's agree to be here in time for dinner, okay guys?" Said Janelle.
...
I walked beside Mrs Harris in one of the biggest malls in NYC.
"Where do you usually buy your clothes?" I asked her breaking the silence.
"Many stores, but Forever 21 is my favourite." She stated.
We walked into Forever 21 and I can't explain the amazement I felt. All these? And they all looked glamorous and super mega expensive.
"Well Maia, I think I owe you an apology. I'm sorry for how I reacted yesterday. I mean seeing Cade now. He's a grown man. This is the best version of him I've seen ever since he was a little boy."
"It's alright ma'am, we're all human after all."
"Well true. It's just that Roxanne really tore our family apart. We lost our home. I know you could say I'm being materialistic but Mark and I worked our butts off to have all we have now. I was heartbroken for some time but I guess if it has never happened, he would've never met you."
"I understand. And I forgive. It's all good Mrs Harris."
"Good, as a token for being good to Cade, I'd like you to pick whatever you want. And I mean anything. Don't look at the price tag, just pick and I'll pay."
"Mrs Harris, thank you but it's not nece-"
"Maia, don't reject my offer."
"Alright, as long as you promise you'll shop with me too."
She agreed and it was one of those girly outbursts. We spent about 3 hours in that shop then finally we stopped and went over to get some juice. We were only talking about fashion. I guess its one of her favourite departments.
...
It was now around 5 p.m.
"Shouldn't we get going now?" I asked.
"Well yes. Just one more thing."
And we walked into one of the Victoria's Secret shops.
"Are you sure this is the right shop?" I questioned.
She laughed.
"Yes Maia. I know you and Cade, you're adults, both of you and I know you're bound to have lots of fun. And I'm not saying you only wear fancy underwear for him. But for yourself as well. So I'm giving you my credit card and I'm going to put all our bags in the car and you're going to pick out any sets of lingerie you'd like. Don't be shy. And you're not allowed to decline my offer." She said, handed me her credit card and went tho the car like she said.
Wow. Just wow.
I looked around the shop and every set looked magnificent. They all looked sexy and seductive and I knew Cade would love them.
I didn't even know what to choose.
It took me bout half an hour to pick out a few.
I walked back to the car with the bags of what I had bought and I decided to hide them. I wanted to surprise Cade any day from now....
We all got back home and had dinner on the balcony.
Mr Harris told me earlier that shortly after dinner it would be time for gifts. So I brought mine and hid it. We had Cade's favourite meal for dinner; marinated steak ribs... only. He even wore a feeder written "Meat Lover".
"Now's the time Cade has been waiting all day for." Said Mark.
The housekeepers brought the cake and we sang for him. Like I said earlier, the birthday song never gets old. He was happy and seeing him happy was more than enough reason for me to be even happier.
The cake was exquisite.
I looked up into the sky and the fireworks fired up. It wrote "Happy Birthday Cade"
"Dad, you did this?" He asked with a huge grin on his face.
"Yes son. I love you."
"I love you too Dad."
Janelle gestured for me to give him my gift. I went over to the corner where it was hidden and I handed it over to him.
The box was fairly large and heavy.
When he opened it he saw the latest drone in the box.
"Maia!"
I didn't have to let him stammer, I hugged him instead. He was so happy he didn't know what to say.
His mom gave him a golden locket. And inside it was a picture of them back then. And I also noticed Dave was in the picture.
"Dave," Cade began.
"He never called to say happy birthday." He said sadly."It's okay baby, we're here now together isn't it? You should be proud of that. We love you." The mom said.
"And that's the reason why we're going to go to the beach right now and see the aurora." Said the dad.
"There's an aurora?" I asked.
"Yeah, let's change quickly and go otherwise we'll miss it." Cade said.
