Prompt: "I don't like you, I love you."

Hi. This is the last post of this book. If I never did your request, I either lost it or just don't have the time to do it. I'm sorry. I'll started posting the second book probably by next month. If you really want meet to start beforehand, I'm sorry. Thanks - Emma

He was your absolute best friend; there was no denying that. Jared had been that rock in your life since you were playing on the monkey bars together that first day of kindergarten so many years ago. Yeah, you guys had your falling out in about third or fourth grade when he was making more friends with boys and leaving you in the dust, but that didn't matter as much as you got older. Throughout middle school, Jared got closer to you again since you had all of your classes together. But high school was by far the most stressful and terrible for you both.

Jared had ended up getting a girlfriend at the end of 8th grade. He would still hang out with you throughout the summer, but the girl that he was with hated that. She truly hated the relationship you and Jared had. Her main goal was to separate you both, whether that was coming up with a fake reason as to why he needed to go somewhere with her or just bluntly telling him to stay away from you right in front of your face. It was hurtful, but Jared would always continue to talk to you without fail. He didn't want to loose you again.

Jared and this girl dated for what felt like years, despite it only being 8 months or so. He was tired of her controlling him, so he broke up with her in the cafeteria when she tried to drag him away from you to sit with her friends, which would've left you alone. She ran out crying, her perfectly done mascara cascading down her perfectly done foundation covered face. He smiled as he walked over to you, sitting down next to you at the lunch table.

"So, how's your day been," he asked as he tore into his bag of chips. You smiled at all of the attention he was giving you. You hadn't had his full attention since last February; he had started dating her at the end of that month. You shrugged your shoulders, trying to hide the blush that was forming on your cheeks as you looked down picked up a piece of fruit from the plastic bag filled with it.

"Let's just say that high school isn't my friend," you replied as he chuckled, shoving a handful of chips into his mouth. "Don't do that, you'll choke or hurt your throat." Jared rolled his eyes and finished chewing.

"You're still the same aren't ya," he asked, confusing you slightly. "I mean, you're still have the protectiveness of a mom and you're still pessimistic."

"Well, at least I care about whether or not you will choke or-"

"It's what I love most about you," he mumbled as you were talking. You furrowed your eyebrows at him. 'Love'? Did he really love you, or was it a friendly kind of love: a sisterly love.

"Love," you asked back as his face went red with embarrassment. He stuttered an stammered, eventually going quiet as he finished his bag of chips. "Like...a sister, right?"

"Not at all," he mumbled as he looked up into your eyes. Your eyes went wide and it was your turn to blush a deep shade of red. "I did just break up with my girlfriend for a reason, and it isn't just because she was being a bitch to you."

"Did-did you ever like her? At all," you asked as he nodded his head.

"Of course I did," Jared said. "It's just...as soon as I didn't have...you...all the time." You smiled at his words, happy and content with the fact that he didn't lead her on for 8 months. "I liked her for the first 6 months, then you took over my brain."

"So what is this? A crush, a cry for me to date you, a-" He cut your off with a chuckle.

"I don't like you," Jared started, your heart instantly sinking into your chest. "I-I love you." Your heart stopped. Jared, the guy you had had a mad crush on since you knew what a crush was, loved you back. You stared at him dumbfounded, not knowing what to say. "It-it's okay if you don't feel the same way. I-I just thought you should know and not be left in the dark and-" You cut him off by kissing him on the lips.

"Shut up," you whispered after you pulled away. "You're rambling, sweetheart." He smiled and crashed his lips onto yours again.
