You hated family gatherings, especially when they were being held at your house. Your parents always left you to do the baking and it wasn't something you appreciated. This year, however, was the worst you've ever had to experience by a longshot. You had to make chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, brownies, and a cake...by yourself. It frustrated you to no end, but at least you enjoyed doing it. You enjoyed the peace and quiet while making the treats and the sweet smell as they were baking and the satisfied faces of the people who ate them afterwards. You were walking down the hallway looking at the list of ingredients you needed to get from the store after school when you heard your name being called.
"Hey, (Y/N). Whatcha doin'," your best friend (and crush), Castiel, said as he took the notebook from your hands. You giggled, rolling your eyes and trying desperately to snatch it back. "What is all this?"
"Cas, do you listen to anything I say?" You had grabbed the notebook back as he shrugged. "I have to back the desserts for the family reunion this weekend. This is the stuff I have to get at the store." His crystal blue eyes were focused on the movement of your lips and you felt your cheeks heating up slightly. He stared for a few more seconds until he looked into your eyes, face full of realization.
"I-I can help you," Cas said with a smile tugging at his lips. "Yeah. I can come to the store with you and then come help you. I mean, as long as you want my help." He rubbed the back of his neck as he looked down at his feet. Why did his awkwardness have to be so adorable? You nodded, agreeing to his idea, causing a ginormous smile to break out on his face.
"Come on, Cassie," you started, watching him roll his eyes at the nickname. "Let's hit the grocery store and get to baking." You grabbed his hand, leading him to your car as you listed off the members of your family attending the gathering. You counted approximately 70, including Castiel since he always wanted to see your family. Your family loved Cas very much, so you always included him in things like this, to make him feel loved. It wasn't that Castiel's family didn't care for him, it was just that he had a single mother and she was never home to spend time with him, leaving your family to be there for him.
The car ride to the grocery store was filled with classic rock blasting on the radio and you and Cas singing, well yelling, terribly along with it. The shopping trip was fairly quick, finding everything in under 20 minutes. The drive home was the same as the drive to the store, instead Castiel wasn't singing, but staring at you with longing. You hadn't noticed the staring, but you did notice the quietness. As soon as you got back home, you took the groceries and set them gently on the kitchen counter and instantly started taking out your ingredients. He walked in and stood on the either side of the counter, waiting for instruction.
"In the high cabinet above the stove, there is a binder. It has all of my grandma's baking recipes in it. Can you bring it to be, Cas?" He nodded, walking over and reaching it without any problem. He set it next to you as he flipped through it to find the recipes you guys needed for the treats you were making. You were so distracted with setting up the ingredients that you didn't notice what he had already did, so you instructed him to do just that.
"I already did, (Y/N/N)," he said casually as he watched you lovingly. You smiled a bit and instantly started mixing together the ingredients. You caught Castiel staring quite a few times and it made you blush 50 shades of red.
You had just put the last batch of cookies in the oven and were starting to work on the cake. The brownies could wait till tomorrow because they would become rock solid by the morning if you cooked them now. You were measuring the amount of flour you had to put in the bowl when something snatched your waist and pulled you towards it. Suddenly, your lips were on Cas' and you had dropped the measuring cup filled with flour to secure your arms around his neck. When he pulled away, he rested his forehead on yours, slightly out of breath. You let out a breathless laugh and kissed his nose before breaking away to pick up the remnants of the glass measuring cup. Castiel chuckled as he lent down and helped you, causing you to be confused.
"What are you laughing at pretty boy?"
"You're just covered in flour. It's honestly kind of attractive," Cas replied with a wink, causing you to burst into laughter. "I've liked you for a long time (Y/N/N)."
"I know. And I've liked you for probably even longer." He playfully rolled his eyes as he gathered the glass shards in his hand, tossing them in the plastic waste container. Cas came back over, latching his arms around your waist again. He started kissing you all over your face as you giggled some more. Finally, his lips met yours and it was your turn to pull away first. "Let's finish making this cake and then get the cookies out of the oven before we get too carried away."
"Agreed."
