Prompt: "I'm here if you need to talk."

You followed Jared into his house as he yelled out to his mom that he was home. He led you up down the steps to his room, which was in the basement. You weren't friends when Jared moved into the basement because you always remembered his room being on the second level of the house and how there was one step at the top that creaked extra loudly if you stepped on the right spot. As if he were reading your mind, he smiled at you as he sat down on his bed and placed his bookbag on the ground.

"I got upgraded sophomore year," Jared said as you nodded and sat next to him, your bookbag also being abandoned onto the floor. You leaned your head on his shoulder as you saw of the new posters he had on his walls. Some of them you had remembered, like his Star Wars ones, but he had different movie posters adorning the walls now, too. You also noticed the plethora of Pearl Jam posters that covered the ceiling, causing you to giggle as he looked down at you with another beautiful smile.

"So, when do you want to leave for the diner," you asked as he shrugged his shoulders. "I'm kinda hungry." He rolled his eyes as he got up and grabbed your hand, dragging you up the basement steps and out into the living room.

"Jared! Where are you going," you heard his mom call as you both turned around the see her standing there with a stern face. "You know you aren't allowed to leave without my permission." Her eyes widened when she saw you, a smile forming across her face as she pulled you in for a hug, pushing Jared away in the process. "(Y/N), sweetie, it's so nice to see you. How've you been?"

"I've been great, Mrs. Padalecki," you answered as Jared eyed the door. "How about you?"

"Just fantastic! How are your parents doing?" You swallowed thickly at the mention of your parents and looked over at Jared for help.

"Mom, (Y/N) has to get something from home and we're going to get food, so we'll be back in about an hour," he said as he grabbed your hand. "Maybe two." You heard his mom about to speak as he pulled you out of the door and lead you down the street. He gave you a small smile as he squeezed your hand. "You okay?" You nodded as you looked down at your hands together.

"Why do you keep holding my hand," you asked. "I don't mind it, but...why?" The smile that spread across his face made your heart skip a beat and you smiled was well. He shrugged his shoulders as he looked over at you and into your eyes.

"I just have always wanted to, I guess," he answered and shrugged. Playfully, you rolled your eyes and looked over at him and squeezing his hand. "Is that weird? That I've literally liked you since I was-" Your eyes went wide at him admitting his crush and he chuckled a little. "S-since I was...nine?" You smiled at him, leaning up and surprising both him and yourself at the small kiss you left on his cheek.

"I've liked you for a few years, mainly when we were starting to fall apart as friends," you answered as he looked at you with admoration. You both turned a corner and noticed the diner. You let go of his hand, running ahead to get there first. You turned around once you made it to the door, watching as Jared kept a leisurely pace, making you wait longer. "Hurry up! You have longer legs than me and I made it here first." When he got to the door, he leant down to kiss your forehead.

"Shut up," he said as he held the door for you. You giggled as you walked in, noticing the newer decor in the shop. The brick on the walls looked new and so did the tile on the floor. You looked over at the counter to see a woman smiling at the both of you. Her smile got wider once she saw your face, sudden realization washing over her face as it flashed through your mind that she, Mrs. Lowe, was the owner and had known you and Jared since you had both started going to the diner.
