Lucy walked around the large opening of the cavern, observing the intricate designs carved into the rock wall. She was surprised that Magma was able to live in this cave undisturbed for two hundred years. Jellal and gray stood talking to magma about her past, how she came to be here. Apparently she was kicked from her home two hundred years ago due to a war of some sort between mages. The locals of the town of cranberry had been complaining of earthquakes, falling rocks from the mountain and terrible sound; like a dragons roar.
"So, your a dragon? How are you human?!" Natsu said. He excitedly jumped around Magma inspecting her from head to toe. "Stop that!" Sylvia scolded, smacking natsu atop the head. "Ouch!" He said, rubbing his head. Magma giggled, placing her finger to her lips as she did so. "Well, I'm a dragon slayer. The more you use your dragon slayer magic; the quicker your turn into a dragon." Magma explained. Natsus' jaw dropped in shock, he slapped his hands into his cheeks. "You mean I can turn into a dragon?!" Natsu exclaimed.
"It's not something to be excited about." Magma said, shaking her head. "It takes years to turn back into a human, for the first twenty years you go on a rampage; killing anything and everything in sight." Magma said, sadness in her tone. Natsus expression turned from excitement to pure shock, his whole body visibly deflating. "Oh." He said.
"So, the same thing happened to you?" He asked, knowing the rock dragon had been long dead for the last seven to eight hundred years. "Yes, my father died and I was devastated. I wandered the world trying to find were I belonged. I joined guild after guild, using my magic to save people. Then, one day I turned into a dragon; and lost all self control." Magma explained, by her expression ashamed of herself. "I was taught better than that, I regret my actions during that time. That's why I came here." She said, sadly.
"I'm sorry." Lucy said, placing her hand on magmas shoulder. "Thank you." Magma said with a smile. "I have never been shown such kindness from other humans, most are to frightened to visit me." She said, her eyes cast to the ground. Lucy frowned sadly at magmas words, her heart aching for the woman. "I'm sure you've lived a very lonely life." Lucy said, knowing how she must have felt. She had lived in her mansion with her father for most of her life, she had been very lonely there; that's why she left to join fairy tail.
"Not all of my life was lonely, I knew my father and was happy. I had many friends over the years I was in guilds, though i miss them dearly; they have long since been gone. Only the past two hundred years of living in this cave have been lonely." She said smiling, looking around the cave with distaste. "I need to redecorate." She said. Everyone laughed as they stood there chatting. "Wait, so what do you think is causing the earthquakes, rockfall and roaring?" Natsu asked, looking to Magma.
"I think this mountain is dying. I can hear the rock moaning, shifting in the night. Rumbling can be heard as the rocks fall from the top. Iv been trying to keep the town safe by deterring the locations the rocks will fall." Magma said, placing her hand on the wall; her eyes closed. She sighed as she heard the rocks cries of pain. "Don't worry, we'll find out what's going on." Lucy said kindly, placing her hand on magmas shoulder. She turned to the others, then looked to the cave entrance.
"We should head into town and talk to the townsfolk." Lucy said. "Maybe we can find out more information from them." She started to walk to the entrance, stopping to turn back to Magma. "Thank you for your hospitality, we shall return soon." Lucy said with a bow. The others bowed and waved goodbye to Magma as they followed Lucy down the long cave entrance. "Well done." Jellal said, matching her stride. "I believe her, we can't just walk away from this." Lucy said, determination on her features.
"This is so cool! We met a dragon!" Natsu exclaimed, punching the air. "Haha!" He laughed smiling. Sylvia couldn't help but smile and shake her head. "It is pretty awesome." She said smiling. "Juvia thinks so too. What do you think, gray-sama?" Juvia asked, hearts in her eyes. "It was awesome." He agreed, nodding; unconsciously taking juvias hand in his. They blinked as they stepped out into the sunlight, shielding their eyes with their hands.
"We should split up and ask around. We'll cover more ground that way." Lucy said, taking Jellals hand. The groups split into threes, Lucy and jellal went to the north while natsu and Sylvia went to the west; gray and juvia went to the east as the mountain was to the south. "Excuse me?" Lucy asked politely, tapping a gentleman on the shoulder. "Hm?" He questioned as he turned around. He wore a bowler hat with a suit and tie, black shoes to top it off. "How may I help you ma'am?" He asked, tipping his hat.
"I'm a mage and I was wondering if you had noticed any disturbances in this area." Lucy said sweetly. "Well miss, rumor has it that a dragon lives in the mountain and she's angry at the townspeople. They say she's destroying the mountain to bring it down on top of us." The man said in a whisper, glancing around to make sure they weren't overheard. Lucy and jellal listened with their eyebrows drawn together. "So, you think the dragon is mad at you?" Lucy questioned raising an eyebrow. The man glanced around nervously before waving them over to a bench.
Natsu and Sylvia walked around casually, natsu sniffing the air unnoticeably. "What are you doing natsu?" Sylvia asked. "I'm seeing if any of these people smell like the mountains." He said. "Ah, makes sense." Sylvia said nodding. "Hm." Natsu said frowning. "What?" Sylvia asked. "Those two men over there by that tree." He said nodding his head towards two burly men leaning upon a tree. "They smell like the mountain." He said. Sylvia glanced towards the two, noticing they wore swords on their hips and shields on their backs. "These men aren't mages." Sylvia noted. Natsu nodded slightly before answering. "Nope, we should head back to the others." He said, as they turned around to regroup.
Gray and juvia walked around enjoying the quiet. There wasn't to many people on this side of town, mostly houses and a park. It was quiet lovely, juvia thought. She hummed as she and gray held hands as they walked down the street. "We should buy silver something nice." Juvia said, peering into a shop with necklaces. "Oooh!" She squealed, sporting just the thing she wanted. "Juvia will be right back." She said with a smile, as she walked into the shop.
Lucy gasped as she and jellal listened to the man with the hat. "Are you sure that's what you heard?" She asked, as he nodded. "We have to find the others." Lucy said to Jellal, jumping from the bench.
