The Next Afternoon

"So have you talked to that Jack guy today yet?" Alexis asked, nudging my arm.

Alexis and I were laying on my bed, scrolling through our phones and every now and then looking up at Clueless which played on the television in the background. Alexis has been bugging me about Jack ever since she got here, I've been ignoring and dodging all the questions but I knew I'd have to answer it soon or I'd rip off her lips.

"No, and for the last time stop asking me about him." I hissed.

Alexis groaned, "But you guys would be so cute together, " She whined, "you can't deny he's attractive."

"I never did deny it," I shrugged, "I'm just not ready for a relationship I have better things to do."

Alexis raised her eyebrow at me, crossing her arms over her chest, "Like what?"

"Um, " I dragged out, "Laying in bed, eating food and spending time with my Summer."

Summer was my five year old little sister. She was my best friend, other than Alexis. Summer can be a handful some times but I couldn't imagine life without her, we've been inseparable since her birth. At first, I despised the thought of having a younger sibling, but once I laid eyes on her all those thoughts went away and I was excited. The only struggle with having a younger sister is that they look up to you as their role model so you have to be careful to make the right decisions and I hate that responsibility

"That's not a good reason, Sky." Alexis shook her head.

I shrugged, "Well, it's the truth. I don't want the dramatic love story or even worst, a cliche relationship. I don't want a relationship at all, not right now at-least." I explained.

Alexis nodded, "Okay but you shouldn't just shut him out because you're 'not ready for a relationship', that's not fair to him." She used air quotes

As much as I hated to admit it, Alexis was right. There was no reason why I couldn't at least be friends with Jack. I liked hanging out with him, I liked his personality and I liked his sense of humour.

I sighed loudly, "fine, I'll give him a chance...but!" I paused, "Only as friends."

"For now." She smirked. I huffed and rolled my eyes at her, throwing the nearest pillow at her.

______

My phone vibrating in my jean pockets, distracted me from the movie Summer and I were watching in my room. I sighed loudly and grabbed my phone and unlocked it. It was a text message, from Jack.

"Hey, it's Jack :)"

I furrowed my eyebrows, "Yeah I know, I have caller ID."

Minutes later I received another text from Jack, "Right haha, so what are you doing today?"

"Nothing, why?"

"I was just wondering if you wanted to hang out.."

I raised my eyebrow, a little surprised he wanted to hang out with me at all.

"Depends"

"On what?"

"What's your definition of 'hanging out'?"

"Lol two friends just chilling and having fun."

"What's your definition of 'fun'?"

"Skylar if you think I'm just trying to hook up with you, you're wrong."

I raised my eyebrow, pursing my lips to the side, "Is that so?"
