I opened the doors to the kitchen and leaned against the counter next to Alexis. I hopped up on the counter and watched her finish the last couple of plates, dry them and sit them in their correct trays.
"I'm so ready to go home already." I sighed, rubbing the bridge of my nose and closing my eyes.
"Same, we only have like ten more minutes though." She agreed, drying off her hands only for one of the workers to add more dishes to the sink.
Alexis groaned and I couldn't help but feel a little bad for her, "I hate this job." She mumbled.
Before I could say anything, Anna, one of the older workers walks up to me with a giddy smile on her face.
"Skylar, there's a very attractive young man asking for you outside." She said, trying to hide back her smile, failing terribly.
I furrow my eyebrows and look over at Alexis who's looking at me the same way, confused.
I hopped down from the counter, straightening out my apron before walking out the kitchen. My eyes scanned the room looking for a familiar face.
"Hey," A voice behind me says, frightening me slightly. I jump and spin around.
I sighed in relief once I see who it is, "Jack, " I breathed, "you scared the shit out of me." I hit his arm.
He chuckled, rubbing his arm as he mumbled an 'ow', "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." He apologized.
I smiled softly, "What are you doing here?" I asked.
"Well I came to see if you wanted to hang out after your shift." He said sweetly.
I pulled my bottom lip into my mouth and looked down at the gold watch on my wrist, "I get off in like five minutes." I told him.
He smiled down at me, "Great, I'll just wait here for you then." He said, almost like he was asking a question.
I nodded before walking back into the kitchen only to be greeted by Anna and Alexis.
"Who was it?" Alexis asked immediately.
I laughed, "It was Jack." I walked past her.
"Who's Jack?" Anna asked. She was always such a nosey woman.
"Her boyfriend." Alexis singsonged.
I whipped my head around, "He is not my boyfriend," I hissed in annoyance, "He's my friend."
"Okay fine they're not dating, but he likes her." Alexis noted.
I rolled my eyes and sat on the counter top next to the sink.
"Do you like him?" Anna asked, completely interested now.
I sighed and leaned my head back, swinging my legs, "Yes..No... I don't know." I groaned, "I mean he's really sweet, easy to talk to, and laid back -"
"Don't forget attractive." Alexis added, smirking.
I rolled my eyes at her, "Yeah sure, he's attractive. Anyways, I'm just not trying to get attached. I don't want a relationship anytime soon." I explained.
Anna nodded, "Why not honey?" She asked.
I licked my lips and looked down at my lap, "I had a bad breakup -"
"A year ago, Sky! I thought you were over it alright." Alexis interrupted me once again.
"It's not as easy as it sounds. When you're in love with somebody you don't just forget them that easy. I am over Andrew but it doesn't change the fact that he hurt me and now I'm afraid to be in a relationship!" I blurted out, the words just vomiting out my mouth.
