As I was engaged in a conversation with some of the other girls at the bonfire, a car pulled up to the left of us which made everyone's head turn toward the direction.
Everyone watched in anticipation, waiting for the people in the car to walk closer so they could figure out who it was. Once the two people hopped out, I could tell right away it was two girls. One blonde and one a brunette.
Once they got closer, the bonfire light enlighten their features and everyone could tell who they were. My breathed hitched in my throat once I saw who it was.
"Hey Leigh!" One of the girls I was talking to shouted and waved them over.
Oh my god, it was Jack's ex and the girl who completely ruined Jack and I's little hang out session a few days ago. Jack never told me she was gonna be here.
Why didn't he tell me she was coming? Probably because he would've known damn well I wouldn't have came.
The last thing I wanted to do was engage in an awkward conversation with Jacks ex, no matter how nice or mean she was it would still be completely awkward.
I looked over at Jack, my eyebrows raised and my eyes slightly wide.
Jack shrugged and mouthed "I'm sorry" to me.
I sighed and lowered my head, my hair falling down and covering the sides of my face. I leaned my elbows on my knees, propping my head up with my hands.
"Hey, what's up girls." Leigh asked as she sat down, grabbing a drink from one of the coolers. "Nothing much, Oh Leigh this is Skylar." One of them introduced me.
Fuck, fuck, fuck, why would they do that?
I lifted my head, pushing my hair back and gave her a fake smile, "Hi" I mumbled.
She squinted her eyes and pointed her finger at me, "Hey, I know you." She said.
I nodded, "Yeah, we met at the restaurant with my best friend, Alexis."
"Oh, " She said lowly, "That's right." I nodded slowly and looked over at the fire, closing my eyes as I felt the heat warm up my skin from the cold wind that blew every now and then.
"So who did you girls come with?" Leigh asked all of us.
"Sam" One of them said, a sexual innuendo hidden in her tone.
"Mike" Another girl said casually.
"Nate" Another girl chirped happily.
It went silent between us, "How about you, Skylar?" Leigh asked.
I gulped and turned to face her, "Um, J-Jack" I faltered.
She leaned back a little in surprise, "Oh" She said, "Really?"
I nodded, "Yeah, " I mumbled.
She nodded, "Well, that's cool I guess." She raised her eyebrows quickly.
I've never been put in such an awkward position before. It was clear she was uncomfortable and probably didn't like me. I could care less though honestly, I wasn't gonna let the opinion of a girl who I barely know of me affect me.
But her sudden interest in me and Jack kind of ticked me off, why would she wanna know? They weren't together and he could be with who he pleases.
"So are you guys like, dating?" She asked, I could hear the faint disgust in her voice.
I shook my head, "No, we're just friends." I clarified.
She laughed, "Jack can't be 'just friends' with a girl, darling. Not now anyway. Sorry to break it to you, but he's probably just trying to get in your pants."
