Lance was very proud of his family. It was a known fact, Lance loved his family. Lance loved talking about his family, bragging about his family, anything about his family.
No one ever told Lance to stop talking about his family, and if they did Lance would just talk more about his family. Lance always made a point about how his family lived in Cuba and that Lance was born there. Lance always said that.
So, landing on a planet of aliens who's families are considered everything, Lance was happy. Lance figured that on this planet there would be aliens who understood his love for his family. His very human family.
Everyone else on the team knew that while on this planet they would never hear the end of it with Lance's stories. In fact, some of them dreaded landing on this planet because of that. The only person who didn't mind was Coran, because Coran enjoyed the stories Lance shared.
After landing on the planet, everyone, besides Coran, moved away from Lance. Lance was too caught up in stories to tell.
"So I told Veronica," Lance went on and on about how he and Veronica would fight for the TV controller by not yelling at each other but by seeing who could outtalk the other, usually resulting in getting in trouble. Lance was bragging about how he'd always win.
The others, Coran too, couldn't disagree with that. Lance talked and talked a lot. The others approached the gate to the village as Lance went on a tangent about his nephew, and about how he would always yell when he saw a cockroach.
Shiro and Allura got them into the small alien town as Lance turned to Keith, talking about his older brothers emo phase. Keith seemed to find it annoying, although he had to admit it was a bit amusing to hear about.
As all the paladin made their way through the town more nad more aliens were gathering around Lance as Lance boasted about how his other brother, Luis, would always lose to Lnce when they raced.
Most of the aliens loved hearing the stories and Lance was happily sharing them, spouting off anything he could think of. The rest of the paladins, minus Coran, seemed just a bit annoyed over the fact that Lance had stopped to talk to the aliens.
"Lance, we need to go see the king," Shiro called out to him. Lance looked up and apologized to the other aliens before running to catch up with the rest of the team.
"Sorry, Shiro. Didn't mean to hold us up," Lance said, smiling at him. Shiro turned around and continued walking.
As the got to the castle, Lance had stopped telling stories about his family and was now flirting with some of the alien girls, who really didn't seem amused. Lance winked to another girl as he walked into the large castle that was home to the king.
As they walked in Lance couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of it all. Small, almost diamond like stones hung overhead, making everything shine just a little more. All the paladins smiled as they noticed the king.
He was wearing a light blue cloak with a small diamond like necklace. He had brown hair with small, red horns peaking from underneath it. He greeted the group with a kind, gentle smile and invited them into his dining room.
Sitting down, Shiro, Allura, and the king all held friendly conversation. Until the king asked, "so, how are your families doing?"
Everyone turned to Lance, who had been silently drinking his water for a while. Lance noticed and looked confused, he clearly hadn't been listening to the conversation.
"You need to listen, Lance. He's asking how our families are and we thought maybe you'd like to answer," Keith says roughly, slightly glaring at Lance.
"Oh... well, thanks guys! That's real thoughtful," Lance beamed, starting to rant about his family. "And I have my niece Nadia, who used to call me Mr. Clain because I told her my last name was McClain and she though Mc was too proper."
Lance laughed a little at the memory before continuing, "and my brother, Marco, would always give me noogies when I got home because he said it would make my head stronger. He knew it wouldn't but he insisted and my child brain believed him."
The king stared at Lance and smirked, "but they aren't your family, are they?"
Lance looked up at him. The rest of the team stared at Lance in confusion. Of course the family Lance had been talking about was his family. Why would he talk about a family that wasn't his?
"Uhm, I grew up with them my whole life, I'm sure that if I wasn't their kid they would've told me," Lance nervously stated. The rest of the team stared at him skeptically. Why was Lance nervous. Was he hiding something from them?
"Ah, so you know they're not your family. Why do you intend on keeping your secret such a secret? Especially when your true sibling is in this room," the king said. Lance stared at him and then looked down.
"Because I'm nothing. I left my family to my dad screaming that he'd never want me back. My own sister doesn't know who I am or that I exist. Just being near her now, seeing her grown is enough for me.
"Besides, I liked my family on Earth. They were so nice and accepting. I wouldn't trade them for dad back if I could," Lance said. The team stared at him and the king in confusion.
Shiro and Keith started whispering to each other about who it could be. Allura or Pidge. Maybe sister just meant sibling, meaning it could be anyone. They kept whispering until the king stood from the table and walked over to Lance.
"Go back to your real family, Lance. I'm sure you know that that would be best for you," the king told Lance, putting his hand on Lance's shoulder. Lance looked up and glared at him, with tears in his eyes.
"My family on Earth is my real family. Not the trash that kicked me out because I told him I wanted to meet a human. Not that trash," Lance spoke harshly. The king grew visibly angry.
"Lance, they aren't you real family. They are fakes, stand ins. THEY AREN'T YOUR REAL FAMILY," the king yelled at the boy. Lance didn't seem fazed though.
"My family is real. My Earth family is my real family. They are my true family," Lance said. Little, blue lines were slowly appearing under his eyes and Allura and Coran seemed about ready to faint.
"My family is real."
