Drowning always seemed scary to Lance. Suffocation, too. Not being able to breath sounded terrifying. Always had and probably always will.
Lance would always argue with others about how the worst way to die would be drowning. It'd be like waiting to die and not being able to stop it.
Lance always talked about death. In a good way, of course. He would talk about top ten ways to die and how 'in his personal opinion'.
Basically the rest is Lance starts drowning. A spell gets put on him by Haggar that has Lance's lungs slowly filling with water.
It gets to the point where Lance is constantly spewing water and can't talk. Allura takes over Blue because of it and eventually Lance either dies sad and without blue or Lance has to go into a pod once a week to remove the fluid from his lungs.
