The next morning Sam's pulled in at the servo for petrol, only problem is that as soon as he gets out of his car and looks for his wallet to pay he can't find it. Checking the car, his gym bag and patting every pocket he has on him at least four times each he has to admit his wallet is missing.
Getting home he checks his entire apartment getting more and more frantic as time goes on. He pulls cushions off the sofa, books out of the bookcase, he even checks the fruit bowl.
"Hey!"
"Where were you?" Sam asks, red faced and frazzled.
"I went out!" Jake replies with a smile on his face. "To get you this!" He hands a cellophane wrapped box set of CD's to Sam with a twinkle in his eye. "I asked the guy at the shop if he knew another good opera about a slut!"
"This is expensive!" Sam turns the box over in his hands, knowing a good approximation of how much it cost.
Jake smiles shyly, "I don't care how much it costs."
"I do. How did you pay for it? You told me you didn't have cent!" Sam hates how shrew-like he's sounding but it's true, Jake swore he didn't have anything which is one reason he took him in.
"I got a friend of mine to give me back the money he owed me..." Jake tails off at the end, realising that something isn't quite right, that he seems to have done something wrong...
"And you spent it all on me."
"Not all of it..." Jake tries to catch Sam's eye but he doesn't seem to want to look at him. He notices the mess in the room for the first time too, the pulled out cushions and throws on the floor.
"Look. You can keep the cash okay? I don't care about that, but please give it back to me so I don't have to cancel all my cards."
"What are you talking about? Give what back?"
"God you must think that I'm so pathetic!" Sam glares at him. "My wallet! That's what I'm talking about!"
"I swear, I didn't take it?"
Sam's anger bubbles up until he can't keep it in any longer, he stalks over to the fridge, slams it open and yanks a bottle of water out, "Yeah, alright I believe you. It just walked away on it's own. So if you happen to see it just walking along the street would you please ask it to come home?" He turns to look at Jake before turning back again in disgust, "Get out of here."
Jake blinks, did he just hear Sam right? "What? Where?"
"WHEREVER THE FUCK YOU WOULD HAVE GONE IF I HADN'T PICKED YOU UP OFF THAT TOILET FLOOR, TAKEN YOU TO THE HOSPITAL AND BROUGHT YOU BACK HERE!"
Sam takes a huge shuddering breath, eyes staring in disgust at Jake. How could have have stolen his wallet after everything he's done for him?! Unable to look at the man any longer, Sam turns away, his shoulders heaving with the emotion of everything.
Jake blinks, stunned by Sam's sudden tirade, his mind trying to process everything.
"What about your clothes?" he asks quietly, trying to think of everything that Sam has lent him over the past thirty six hours.
"You know what? Keep them, I don't want them and here...return this for the money your 'friend' gave you, I already have it." Sam shoves the CD into Jake's chest before walking into his bedroom and slamming the door.
