"Where were you? I was starting to worry!" Corey tells Jay when he spots him coming through the crowd.

"Sorry, I was hung up."

"That's okay! It gave me more time to miss you!" Corey swings down from the perch he had been sitting on to watch Luke, a big grin on his face, "And be even happier now that you're back!"

Corey moves to kiss Jay but something stops him, a whiff of a scent on the breeze and he pauses, trying to nail down where it's coming from.

"Is that...cologne?" he asks, confusion etched onto his face.

"Huh? Oh. Yeah, I guess so?"

"I don't ever remember you wearing cologne?"

"I just started," Jay says hurriedly.

"Is everything alright? You seem a little distant...?" Corey asks. They're standing too far apart for his liking and his senses are niggling at him that something's wrong.

"Yes, everything's fine."

"Oh. Okay. Now, where were we?" Corey tries to remember what they were talking about before Jay had to use the men's room. "Oh yes! In our cute little cottage!"

"No, wait," Jay tugs on Corey's hand to stop him. "I can't lie to you. We've meant too much to each other for that." He takes a deep breath, "I've met someone new..."

"New?! We've only been together an hour and forty five minutes!" Corey exclaims, his voice going up several octaves.

"I didn't mean for it to happen, I swear!" Tears prick at Jay's eyes, "I never meant to hurt you!"

Corey purses his lips together, then he feels like vomiting. A second later he's running through the club away from the person he thought was the love of his life.

"Corey wait!" Jay hollers as he charges after him into the street outside.

"How could you do this to me?!!" Corey turns to look back. "To us? After all that we've shared?"

"Please, don't make this harder than it has to be," Jay begs.

"You said that you'd never felt so close to anyone in your whole life! That we were two halves of the same soul!"

"Things change, people change..."

"I haven't changed!" Corey shouts, in a haze of tears. "I still love you..."

"In time, passion dies. You have to accept it and move on."

"Fine! Corey wraps his scarf around his neck in a flourish. "Go!" he tells him, pointing down the street.

"I'll remember you, always."

"Yeah? How long is that? Until tomorrow?!! I gave you the best minutes of my life!" Corey tells him, tears free falling down his cheeks. Sticking his hands in his fur coat pockets, he turns sadly away to walk home.

Joy tries to engage the desk sergeant in conversation, "So you've got the night shift huh sergeant? I do the same thing at the diner, midnight to eight? In addition to eight til four. Sixteen hours straight, to help pay for my brother's medical bills. But you do that when someone in your family's sick. Is there anyone in your family who needs attention?"

"My sister's a diabetic," The sergeant tells her, after looking at her solemnly for a moment. "She got it when she was about ten."

"How's she doing?"

"They cut her leg off a few years ago... now she's losing her sight."

"Oh god bless her," Joy says with feeling. "I'd imagine you'd want to do anything to help her?"
