"Well, this day is full of surprises! Is this a fun visit or do you two need a good lawyer?" Maddie asks Sam and Corey as she greets them in the reception of her firm, leading them back to her office.

"What we need is a good lunch!" Corey almost moans, bending over with hunger.

"We thought we'd take Jake out, that is if you can spare him?" Sam says, chuckling at Corey's dramatics.

"I'd be happy to if he were here. He hasn't come in today."

Corey looks questioningly at Sam as they walk up the corridor together, heading towards Maddie's office.

"Oh. That's right, he mentioned this morning that he wasn't feeling well..." Sam stammers, his mind whirring. "Yeah...I think he's got the flu...or something...and, er...he didn't want to share it around..."

"Well that's thoughtful, but, quite frankly Sammy, this isn't the first time, and when he is here he's slow and doesn't complete the tasks we assign him. The other partners are pissed. They want him gone," Maddie says, completing about three tasks all at once as she's talking to him.

"Well, I'll talk to him..."

"Sorry, that's my call, excuse me guys...Hello Maddie Cohen?"

Sam looks at Corey as they make a move to leave. "Don't say anything," he warns him.

Corey puts his hand on his heart looking innocent. "Me? I wouldn't dream of it! Only it's not his germs that he doesn't want to share, it's his drugs!"

Sam stops stock still in the entrance to the reception. "Thanks for not saying anything! Why do you have to always be so fucking cynical?" he hisses.

"I'm not cynical! But you know what? I'd rather be fucking cynical than in fucking denial!" Corey hisses back.

Sam gives him a hard look, getting all formal on Corey which he has a tendency to do when he's in full denial. "He has a cold and a sore throat accompanied by the aches and pains of a fever and congestion. If the symptoms persist we'll consult a doctor!" he says haughtily before turning on his heel and leaving.

"You'll love the bbq Liz, it's a P-FLag tradition!" Joy says, in between licking envelopes.

"Joy started it..." Dave tells her, sticking stamps on the envelopes Joy gives him.

"Well there's so many serious issues to deal with, I thought it was a nice way to have fun with your kids..."

"I'm looking forward to it!" Liz assures her as she folds more invitations. "Not sure how eager Luke is going to be..."

"I'll work on him," Joy says confidently.

Dave looks down at his work, "They put everything on stamps these days; composers, birds, even rock bands, when are they going to have famous fags?!"

"You can be on the 69 cent stamp honey!" Joy belly laughs.

"Hey Mum!" Luke calls as he comes in through the front door to find his mother at the kitchen table.

Both Joy and Liz call back to him and then look at each other and laugh, Joy putting her hand up to her mouth in apology.

"You're going with your mum to the P-Flag barbecue and I don't want to hear another word about it!" Joy tells Luke as he comes into the kitchen, unbuttoning his school blazer as he bends down to give Liz a kiss on her cheek.

"Okay."

Liz accepts the kiss, turning to Joy with a look of amazement on her face and Joy looks back at her extremely smugly.
