Chapter 8: The Tutoring Session

It was two days after Miss. Larson assigned him a tutor in social studies for Steve Harrington the boy who bullied John, Dawn and Christy.

Steve walked to The Hart's house for his tutoring session with Dawn. Her brothers, John and Derek were out with their dad getting a haircut for picture day on Monday.

"I've set out some snacks for you and your little friend on the table in the kitchen in case you get hungry." said Mrs. Hart while putting on her coat.

"Thanks, Mom." said Dawn while putting her textbook in the living room.

"I'll be at the mall buying your brothers clothes for picture day. If you need me just call ok honey?" said Mrs. Hart while opening the door.

"Ok mom I'll see you later." said Dawn

"Bye honey."

Then Mrs. Hart got in her car, pulled out of the driveway and drove down the street.

Dawn decided to make flashcards to help Steve study.

Steve texted Dawn on her cellphone and the message said

"I'll be there in twenty minutes."

Dawn replied back with "ok see you soon."

Dawn finished with making the last flashcard and just then the doorbell rang.

"Hello Steve, How are you?" said Dawn while showing him to the living room.

"I'm good, thank you" said Steve while following her to the living room.

The two kids sat in the living room on the couch and looked in Dawn's textbook.

"What two things did the Mesopotamians use to sell?" asked Dawn.

"Uh, Barley and livestock such as cattle and yaks?" asked Steve.

"That's right" said Dawn.

" My mom left us a snack on the kitchen table for us to eat. Would you like some?" asked Dawn.

"Sure." said Steve.

They went into the kitchen and saw the plate of graham crackers.

"May I have a glass of water please?" asked Steve.

"Of course I'll get you some." said Dawn while getting a glass out of the cabinet.

Dawn gave Steve his water and they started to enjoy their snack.

After their snack, Dawn let Steve borrow her flashcards to Steve to practice at home.

"Thanks for the tutoring session Dawn. I'll see you Monday at school and rehearsal" said Steve while he opened the front door.

"Ok Steve I'll see you Monday." said Dawn.

Steve walked out of the house and went home.

Dawn cleaned up the crumbs in the kitchen and put the dirty dishes and glasses in the sink.

"Why was Steve being so nice to me? At camp and throughout school he always bullied me and my friends. Maybe after getting beaten by Christy at running during camp when she had my brother's powers helping her to be Camp Champ he decided to be nice."

"But he does have nice baby blue eyes and a cute smile. Am I starting to get a crush on Steve Harrington?" 

Dawn couldn't believe what she thought in her mind. That she like likes the same boy who picked on her, John and Christy at summer camp. But she decided to keep it a secret for as long as she can before anyone found out.

Dawn went upstairs into her bedroom and decided to take a nap. She layed her head down on her pillow and pulled her pink comforter over herself and fell into a deep sleep.
