It was the end of another school day Dawn and her adoptive brother Derek were on their way to play rehearsal.
"It said in our cast email that we're gonna start dancing for the show." said Dawn.
"I'm excited about it to." added Derek.
When they got there, there was already a set for Mr. Warbucks' mansion was already being built.
Steve Harrington came in the door and sat down in one of the seats in the audience.
"Hey Dawn, Hey Derek." said Steve while taking out his homework binder.
"Hi Steve." said Dawn.
"I'm so nervous about this Friday's test that I'm having trouble concentrating on the questions." said Steve while chewing on the end of his eraser.
"I'm glad you're taking Miss. Larson's advice very seriously." said Dawn while looking at the questions.
"Besides if you're not in the play who would play Rooster Hannigan and nobody could do it as good as you." said Dawn.
After going over the questions with Steve, Dawn decided to look at her script and practice her lines.
Ten minutes later, Mr. Baxter and a woman with short black hair, black leggings with a pink top that has the words "Twinkle Toes Dance Studio" on the back of it and a pair black character shoes walked into the auditorium.
"Hello, Dawn, Derek and Steve and how are you doing today?" said Mr. Baxter.
"We're good." said Dawn.
"I have someone I'd like you all to meet. This is Miss. Donna she's gonna be the choreographer for the show." said Mr. Baxter.
The three stars of the show introduced themselves and they each shook her hand.
"It's nice to meet you all." said Miss. Donna.
Then the cast and crew members started to walk in the auditorium and they sat in the audience.
"Hello everyone, we have a special guest to help us with the musical. This is Miss. Donna she owns Twinkle Toes Dance Studio and she's gonna be the choreographer." said Mr. Baxter.
"It's a pleasure to meet you all and I know that we're gonna have a lot of fun together." said Miss. Donna.
The music teacher, Miss. Moore rolled her piano next to the stage and sat on her piano bench.
"I need the orphans to come on stage for the It's A Hard Knock Life number." said Miss. Donna.
The kids got on stage and waited for Miss. Donna.
"For this dance routine, all of you are gonna have props like buckets and cleaning rags. So you're gonna get down on your hands and knees." said Miss. Donna.
She got down on her hands and knees, then she demonstrated with an imaginary rag and bucket.
"First you put the bucket on the ground then you'll dip the rag into the water before it's time to sing It's A Hard Knock Life." said Miss Donna.
After demonstrating the dance Miss. Donna said "Now it's your turn to copy the dance."
At first the students had a little trouble, but after rehearsing the number over and over again the kids were starting to get the hang of it.
"You all did a great job, I'll see you tomorrow for another practice." said Miss. Donna.
Dawn and Derek started to walk home.
When they got home, Derek told their parents about the dance rehearsal during dinner.
"It sounds like fun." said Mr. Hart.
Derek went upstairs to his bedroom and practiced his lines and song.
After a while, it was bedtime Derek and John got in their pajamas and climbed into their beds.
Dawn was in her pink nightgown and reading her social studies textbook for Friday's test.
"Steve is getting a little bit better with social studies, but I really like studying with him. I think I should have a study date with him next time he wants to work with me outside of school." Dawn thought to herself.
Then Dawn put her textbook in her backpack and turned out the light and fell into a deep sleep.
