Chapter 50: The Dinner Dance Cruise

Seven months later, Mr. Parker announced that the eighth grade dinner dance cruise was in two weeks from Friday. John, Dawn, Christy and Derek already had their outfits picked out and made hair appointments at the barbershop and at the hair salon.

The cruise was gonna take the kids into the city and a fancy boat was taking the entire eighth grade class around the harbor where they'll have dinner and dance on the top deck under the stars.

The kids got their parents permission to go on the cruise. Mr. Hart will drop off and pick them up at the school when the cruise is over.

Two weeks were up and today is the day of The Dinner Dance Cruise.

John and Derek went to the Barbra Anne Barbershop and got haircuts.

Dawn and Christy went to Curls Night Out Beauty Salon to get their hair done. Dawn got her hair curled while Christy got her hair blown out.

The girls decided to wear the same dresses, accessories, shoes and have their makeup the same way they did when they went to the Care Bear wedding last year.

Derek wore a blue buttoned down shirt, black pants and black shoes. John wore a green buttoned down shirt with khakis and brown shoes.

"You girls look great." said Mr. Hart as he took his cellphone out to take their picture.

The boys got in the picture to and they smiled.

Mr. Hart took the kids to the school and told them to meet them in front of the school statue.

The kids got on the school bus and drove into the city.

"You look beautiful honey." said Derek.

"Thank you." said Christy.

After driving for three hours, the bus arrived at the harbor.

The kids got off the bus and started to climb aboard the ship.

Dinner was salad, breadsticks and lasagna with their choice of soda, juice, lemonade or water.

Dessert was their choice of cake or ice cream sundaes.

The D.J. started to play fast music. John took Rachel on the dance floor, Steve took Dawn on the dance floor and Derek took Christy on the dance floor. The six friends started dancing until the sun started to set.

A few hours later, the girls took off their shoes because their feet started to get blisters.

Before anyone knew, it was time for the last dance before leaving. Derek took Christy on the dance floor and started to dance slowly and he spun her around.

"You're a great dancer baby." said Christy.

"I've had practice." said Derek as he dipped her.

The boat docked back on the pier and everyone started to gather their belongings.

The bus arrived to pick up the students. 

When Derek and Christy sat down in the bus, Derek decided to ask his girlfriend out on a proper date.

"Wanna go out with me tomorrow?" asked Derek.

"I'd love to." said Christy as she hugged her boyfriend.

The couple held hands on the three hour bus ride back home.
