It was eleven o' clock and it was time for Christy to meet Derek for Home Ec class. Derek saved Christy a spot next to him in the middle row of the classroom.

"Thanks Derek." said Christy as she pulled out her chair.

"No problem." said Derek.

The teacher came in the classroom and introduced herself "Hello class my name is Miss. Anderson." She said as she wrote her name on the whiteboard.

Miss. Anderson was a tall woman with blonde hair, green eyes, fair skin and wore a peach colored blouse with a beige skirt and matching flats.

"This year for freshman we're gonna do cooking, sewing and the marriage test." said Miss. Anderson.

"The first semester is gonna be all cooking. Second semester will be about sewing and the last semester of the year will be the marriage test." said Miss. Anderson as she handed out the Home Ec class schedules with the assignments.

It said on the paper that their first cooking assignment is to bring in a family recipe and write a essay about who taught them how to make the recipe and why that recipe is so special to them. The assignment is due on Friday.

An hour later, the bell rang and the students got up from their seats and walked to lunch.

Christy and Derek walked in the hallway and held hands.

"I'm gonna bring in my grandma's chocolate chip cookie recipe." said Derek.

"I don't know what I'm bringing. I'll ask my dad if we have any old family recipes I can use." said Christy.

"Don't worry honey. We can help each other. You can help me with my recipe and I can help you with yours." said Derek.

"Ok I'll come over to your house on Thursday so our recipes will be fresh for class." said Christy.

"Sounds like a plan." said Derek.

"I'll bring my ingredients for whatever my recipe is." said Christy.

The school day went by and the four friends walked home.

When they got back home, Mrs Hart did the grocery shopping.

"Hey kids how was your first day of high school?" asked Mrs. Hart.

"It was good we got our first assignment for Home Ec class." said Derek as he put the eggs in the refrigerator.

"Really what's the assignment?" asked Mrs. Hart.

"We have to bring in a family recipe and write an essay about who taught them how to make t and why that recipe is so special to us." said Derek.

"That's great have you decided on what you're gonna make?" asked Mrs. Hart.

"Yeah I'm gonna make Grandma Anne's chocolate chip cookies." said Derek.

"That's wonderful I'm sure she'll be happy to know that one of her grandchildren is gonna make her recipe." said Mrs. Hart.

"Christy is gonna help me make them." said Derek.

"Ok I have the recipe written down in my notebook. You can borrow it." said Mrs. Hart.

"Ok thanks Mom." said Derek.
