Tonight was the night that The Hart kids and Christy were going to their first school dance.

Dawn wore a pink dress with a white sweater, pink kitten heels, the pink ring that her grandparents gave her for Thanksgiving. Her hair was in a half ponytail tied in a pink hair ribbon and wore pink lipstick and had mascara on her eyelashes.

John and Derek were wearing red dress shirts with white neckties, Derek wore khakis with brown shoes and John wore black pants with black shoes.

John went downstairs and waited for his mom to drive him to Rachel's house.

John's cellphone buzzed, he looked at it and it was a text from Rachel.

The text said "My address is 36 Rock Road see you soon."

John texted back saying "Ok thanks for telling me."

"John! Are you ready to go?" asked Mrs. Hart.

"Yeah mom!" said John as he grabbed his coat out of the coat closet.

Then they went to the car and drove off to Rachel's house.

Ten minutes later, there was a knock at the door. Derek answered the door and saw that it was Steve.

"Hey Steve how are you?" asked Derek.

"I'm good." said Steve.

I'll get Dawn and tell her that you're here." said Derek.

"Dawn! Steve is here" said Derek.

"Coming!" said Dawn

Just then Dawn came downstairs to the door where Steve was.

"Wow Dawn you look very beautiful." said Steve.

"Thank you and you look very handsome." said Dawn.

"I'll meet you two at the dance." said Derek as he combed his hair.

"Ok see you there" said Dawn as she shut the door.

Derek was going to the dance with Christy and decided to walk to her house and the dance which was held in the school gym.

Derek decided to wear the hat that Grandpa Arthur gave him for Thanksgiving.

He walked up the steps to Christy's house and rang the doorbell.

Mr. Walker answered it and said "Hello Derek. I like your hat."

"Thank you is Christy ready?" asked Derek

"She's just putting on her makeup she'll be right down." said Mr. Walker.

Derek sat in the living room and waited for Christy to come downstairs.

Ten minutes later, Christy walked downstairs wearing a red blouse, black jean skirt and black flats. Her hair was straightened with a red headband and had red lipstick on her lips.

Derek saw Christy and said "You look very beautiful."

Christy blushed after she heard that compliment.

"Thank you and you look very dapper in that hat you're wearing." said Christy as she went to get her coat.

"Have fun you two. See you later." said Mr. Walker as he shut the door behind them.

The two kids walked to the school and went inside.

Derek and Christy paid Miss. Larson at the front of the gym door and went inside the gym.

The inside of the gym was decorated in red, white and pink streamers, red balloons were on every table and they saw the twins and their dates sitting at a table.

"Hey guys we saved a spot for you two." said Dawn.

The two kids walked over to the table and Derek pulled out Christy's chair for her.

"Thank you Derek. That was very thoughtful of you." said Christy as she sat down.

"It's no problem. Just trying to be polite." said Derek while pulling out his chair.

The six friends ate pizza, drank some lemonade and ate a couple of heart shaped sugar cookies.

The D.J called everyone on the dance floor and started to play dance music.

The twins, Derek, Christy, Rachel and Steve went out on the dance floor and started dancing on the gym floor. The lights were off and the colored dance lights were hitting the gym floor.

After a while it was time for the last dance. The Hart kids took their dates on the dance floor and started to do a slow dance.

Derek and Christy waltzed like they were the main characters of a romance movie.

"You're a very good dancer." said Christy as she held Derek's hands.

"Thank you." said Derek.

Steve spinned Dawn during the song.

"Dawn there's something I want to tell you." said Steve

"What is it?" said Dawn.

"Ever since I stopped being Camp Champ at Camp Pinecone. I've turned over a new leaf." said Steve as he held Dawn's hand

"Really? You're not a bully anymore?" asked Dawn.

"Yeah. What I mean is that I'm very sorry for making  you, John and Christy do trash duty and the camp laundry." said Steve.

"It's ok." said Dawn

"I think that you're a very beautiful girl. And I was wondering if you would be my girlfriend." said Steve.

"I'd love to." said Dawn as she danced with her new boyfriend.

John and Rachel sat down at the table and held hands.

"Rachel, I'm having a great time with you tonight." said John

"Me to." said Rachel

"I wish this night could last forever." said John

"Maybe we can go out on a date sometime." said John

When Rachel heard John say those words she smiled so bright that the light on the dance floor glistened on them.

"I'd like that very much." said Rachel.

Everyone grabbed their belongings and started to go outside and wait for their parents.

Derek and Christy walked back to Christy's house.

"I had fun with you tonight Christy." said Derek.

"Me to." said Christy.

Derek gaved Christy a peck on the cheek and started to walk home.

Christy was happy and she went up to her bedroom and wrote in her diary about how much fun she had at the dance with Derek and how he kissed her cheek.

She took off her shoes and started reliving the dance with Derek in her imagination.
