Chapter 79: Senior Dance Competition Audition

It's been a month since The Hart kids and Christy have entered their Senior Year. While they were walking to the cafeteria for lunch, Derek saw a poster for auditions for the annual Senior Dance Competition. 

"Hey Dawn wouldn't it be fun if we tried out for the Senior Dance Competition." said Derek.

"Yeah it would." said Dawn as she looked at the poster.

"I'd audition with you honey but, I have cheerleading practice for the Homecoming Game today." said Christy.

"That's ok sweetie Dawn and I can do the audition." reassured Derek.

"We can do a waltz for our audition." said Derek.

"Ok I remember Mom and Dad dancing that for their wedding day. They taught me and John when we were younger." added Dawn.

"The auditions start at five o' clock and if we can get our homework done early and find a open space to practice we'll be right on time." said Derek as he put his name and Dawn's name on the sign up sheet.

Two hours later, the bell rang and Derek texted his parents and told them that he and Dawn were coming home late because they're auditioning for the Senior Dance Show.

Seconds later, Mrs. Hart texted back saying "Ok honey break a leg at the audition."

Derek and Dawn went to the library and got started on their homework.

Thirty minutes later, Derek and Dawn finished their homework and they decided to find a big open space to practice for the Senior Dance Show.

"We can't use the gym because the cheerleaders are using it." said Derek.

"The football field is out of the question because the team is practicing for the Homecoming Game next Friday." said Dawn.

"Maybe we can practice in the auditorium before the audition starts." said Derek.

"That could work." said Dawn as she held the door open for her brother.

"Let's go." said Derek.

The two siblings walked down to the auditorium to practice their waltz.

Dawn used her cellphone to play waltzing music.

Derek took Dawn's hand and started dancing to the beat of the music.

Dawn was amazed as she and her red headed brother glided across the stage.

"Wow Derek you're very light on your feet." said Dawn.

"Thanks." said Derek as he spun Dawn.

They practiced until quarter of five and they had to wait outside the auditorium to wait their turns.

The person running the audition was Mrs. Steinberg.

She started calling the students one by one.

Finally it was Derek and Dawn's turn to try out.

"Hello Derek and Dawn and what kind of dance will you two be performing?" asked Mrs. Steinberg.

"We're doing a waltz." said Derek.

"A waltz? We haven't had anyone do a waltz for the senior show since when I was a student here back in 1998." informed Mrs. Steinberg.

"You two may start whenever you're ready." said Mrs. Steinberg.

Dawn turned the volume up on her cellphone when she turned on the waltz music.

Derek took Dawn's hand and did the same thing when he was rehearsing.

When the song finished, Mrs. Steinberg gaved Dawn and Derek a round of applause.

"That was one of the most beautiful waltzes I've ever seen." said Mrs. Steinberg as she wrote on her clipboard.

After the auditions were over, Mrs. Steinberg announced that she's posting the sheet for the show tomorrow.

Derek and Dawn walked to the car and drove back home.
