Christy went in the kitchen and asked her dad what recipe she can make for her Home Ec class assignment.

"Well honey I remember a apple pie recipe that your great grandmother use to make for your great grandfather every year on Valentine's Day." said Mr. Walker.

"Really? Do you know where it is?" asked Christy

"In your great grandmother's cookbook." said Mr. Walker.

A few hours later while Christy was finishing up her algebra homework, Mr. Walker knocked on Christy's bedroom door and told her that he found the recipe.

"Here's the recipe Christy." said Mr. Walker as he handed it to her.

"Thanks Dad I'll check in the kitchen and see if we have the ingredients to make it." said Christy.

"Ok sweetie if you need any help just call me." said Mr. Walker.

Christy took out her cellphone and texted Derek.

"I'm making my great gradmother's apple pie." texted Christy.

"That's great babe. Mom has the ingredients to make the cookies she said you can come over." texted Derek.

"I'm on my way." texted Christy.

Christy told her dad that she'll be home later.

She walked to the Hart's house and as soon as she walked up the walkway, Derek opened the door and ran into Christy's arms.

"Hey sweet pea." said Derek as he leaned in for a kiss.

"Hey honey." said Christy.

"Come in and wash your hands because we're gonna start baking." said Derek.

The couple went to the kitchen and washed their hands.

Derek looked at the recipe and started to read it aloud.

"We need one cup of flour, a teaspoon of baking powder, three eggs, a cup of water, two cups of sugar and a cup of chocolate chips."

Christy took out the measuring cups and started measuring the ingredients one by one.

Derek took the mixing bowl and started mixing the ingredients together with the egg beater.

Christy sprayed butter on the cookie sheet, poured the batter on the sheet and set the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Derek set the timer for thirty minutes and washed the bowls.

Christy licked the egg beater that had some of the mix.

"I saw that." said Derek as he dried the dishes.

"It's so good." said Christy.

"I don't want my baby getting a tummy ache." said Derek.

"Don't worry there's not much batter on the beaters." said Christy.

"And I'm helping you out so you don't have to wash the beaters so much." added Christy.

"If you say so honey." said Derek.

The couple relaxed on the couch and waited for the timer to go off.

Thirty minutes later, the timer went off and Derek went to the oven and took out the cookies.

"They smell good and look great." said Christy.

"Yeah I'll get a paper plate and some tin foil and wrap the cookies so they'll be fresh for Friday."

After that, Derek wrote a sign that said "Home Ec homework Do Not Eat." just in case the twins ate the cookies by accident.

"The easy part is done and now the tricky part the essay about why the cookies are special to me." said Derek as he took out a piece of lined paper from his binder.

He took out a pencil, sat down on the couch next to Christy and started writing about how the chocolate chip cookie recipe was started by his grandmother who used to make cookies for everyone in her old neighborhood during The Great Depression. Whenever one of the neighbors didn't have anything sweet to feed their kids she'd got right to work baking the cookies and putting a smile on their faces.

Derek completed the essay and put it in his backpack.

After finishing the assignment, Derek went to Christy's house and helped her find the ingredients to make her great grandmother's apple pie.

Christy already had apples but she went to the cupboard to see if she had dry ingredients.

"The recipe needs three apples, two cups of flour, one cup of baking soda, two eggs, three cups of water and one cup of sugar." said Christy as she looked at the paper.

Derek measured the ingredients and put them in the bowl while Christy used the apple cutter to slice the apples perfectly before she mashed them.

They put the ingredients in the mixing bowl and started stirring the ingredients together.

Derek sprayed the pie plate with spray butter, put the mix in it and set the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Christy set the timer to thirty five minutes.

"Now I have to write about how the recipe is special to me." said Christy as she took out her lined paper and pencil.

Christy wrote about how the recipe was from her great grandmother and she made the pie for her husband every year on Valentine's Day and she always said to him that he was the apple of her eye. She wrote on the paper that when she gets married that she'll make the apple pie for her husband and say that he's the apple of her eye.

Time was up and the timer started ringing.

Christy took a hand towel and took the pie out of the oven.

"It smells yummy." said Derek.

"Yeah it does." said Christy.

She put tin foil over the pie and did the same thing as Derek and wrote a note on top of the pie that said "Home Ec Homework Do Not Eat."

"Finally that's the last of the homework for tonight." said Christy as she plopped back down on the couch.

"You got some flour on your cheek." said Derek as he brushed it off.

"You must think I'm a mess." said Christy as she checked her hair which became frizzy when she got too close the oven.

" You're always beautiful to me." said Derek as he stroked Christy's hair.

"Aww thanks honey." said Christy.

Derek gaved Christy a goodbye hug and kiss and started to walk home.
