My heart pounded in my chest like a drum as sweat formed on my forehead. My breath was quick and shallow. My body was in a lot of pain which at the moment I simply ignored, allowing myself to try and concentrate.

Time seemed to have came to a complete stop. My vision was blurred and everything seemed to have been happening as though it was in slow-mo. All the sounds were a one big muffled buzz.

About twenty feet to my right were my friends. They were all huddles up closely by the altar for the Crystal Heart. They shivered and winced. They were clearly petrified at something. Something, that was to my left...

Turning my head slowly, it quickly occurred to me what my friends feared so much. I was terrified too.

Just thirty feet to my left stood he. The King. The tyrant. The shadow pony. My body shivered and I gulped. He looked fearless and purely determined to kill.

At the same time, he looked absolutely perfect. His coat was a shade of cold dark grey which reflected his lifeless soul. His flaming red eyes cunning and filled with bloodthirst, while his beautiful coal black mane flowed behind him, almost like smoke. Razor sharp fangs pointed out of his upper jaw like deadly knives ready to kill.

He wore a red royal cape which looked to be slightly tattered, but as comfortable as silk. It flowed behind him majestically like a river of fire. His neck and legs were securely shielded with metal plates which looked heavy and well polished, and they reflected faint ghastly images of their surrounding.

The tyrant stood there proudly, looking at me with an emotionless desire to kill. He looked determined and fearless, yet something told me he was just afraid as I was.

On the other side, my friends kept screaming and shouting, begging me to run away from the monster. I painfully scrambled myself up, revealing the Crystal Heart that was tightly wrapped up in my healthy wing.

The reveal caused my friends to scream more vigorously, begging me to give them the Crystal Heart. At the same time, the tyrant to my left knew he lost. He very well knew that it was over.

It would've taken me a split second to throw the Heart towards my friends and banish the monster. He was too far to stop me.

My hooves sweated as I held the precious artifact. I looked once more at the stallion to my left. He was a real pony once, not a monster. I could tell he had feelings too. He used to love. He used to be just like us.

I didn't pass the Crystal Heart to my friends. Instead, I looked calmly at the tyrant. I gently placed the artifact onto the floor, and then pushed it towards him. The Crystal Heart slid over to him swiftly, and he looked at it, barely believing what just happened

Suddenly my senses returned and I was finally able to think properly. I instantly regretted giving the Crystal Heart to the tyrant, and what used to be my friends pleas to pass the artifact over, were now screams of fear and hopelessness.

Shit... I messed up!  I thought to myself, as my heart started to beat rapidly.

I started to slowly back away, not taking my eyes off the tyrant. I watched him pick the Crystal Heart up with his magic, and examine it victoriously. Eventually my flank touched Rainbow Dash's chest, and I had to stop.

"You fucking screwed up!" Dash whispered to me frantically. She sounded furious, and she was right to be.

The tyrant caused the artifact to vanish with a flash black and purple light. Along with it, all our hopes vanished too. There was nothing left to stop the tyrant now. He won.

His evil gaze sent shivers down me, but somehow, something deep inside me made me believe he was not evil. That there was still more pony left in him than monster.
