Five days after the meeting with the Celstial sisters, I found myself sitting on the comfortable sofa in Sombras office, as he was sitting on his throne-like chair, looking down miserably at the table."Sombra." I spoke softly, trying to comfort him. "You have just two days left to restore the crystal heart, we cannot hesitate any longer." I warned him calmly.
"I know." He snapped angrily. I sighed.
"Do you feel ready?" I tried to make conversation, but it was difficult with a pony who was clearly so stressed.
"Do I look ready?" He questioned me rhetorically.
"No, sorry. You can always leave the Empire for a safe distance while I activate it, if that helps." I suggested the idea that suddenly went into my mind.
"That would work, but no. As a respectful King I must be there at the most important time for my subjects." He looked at me helplessly. I then smiled at the stallion, and he frowned from confusion.
"So you care about your subjects." I deduced.
"No." He snapped uncertainly.
"I can see that, don't deny it." I ordered happily.
"Fine, but why does that make you smile?" He questioned angrily.
"Because this is another sign that you are ready, silly." I giggled, making the King glare at me. "Tell me honestly, what of dark magic has been left inside of you?" I asked, with a serious face now.
"I- I don't know." He said uncertainly. "Probably only those fangs and the goddamn horn." He mumbled angrily. I could not understand why he was angry about it, he never suggested anything about it that could tell me he didn't like it.
"Are those a problem for you?" I asked calmly. Sombra took a moment to reply, as he unconsciously scribbled with a quill on some spare parchment.
"Not really, however I must admit that my different appearance to other ponies does not feel that good anymore." He confessed.
"I'm sorry to hear that, but I would never change anything about you, you're perfect to me." I smiled, trying to comfort him.
"Say that to the whole Empire." He complained and rolled his eyes.
The room was then filled with an awkward silence, something that hasn't happened between me and Sombra for quite some time, making it feel particularly odd.
"I think we should prepare for the celebration in two days time." Sombra suddenly spoke with a serious expression. I looked up at him as my mouth fell open. "I would like you to take care of the celebration itself, as I believe you may know better how these work. I will make sure whatever is needed to be ready like food or invitations at your command." He explained, and my mouth fell open even wider.
"You are putting me in charge?" I couldn't believe it.
"Yes. There is no other pony I can trust more, and I am certain you would do a better job than me." He admitted. My ears flattened, because I knew this job was too much for me. I always ruined things with my troublesome luck, especially when something big was going on.
"I don't know if I can." I admitted uncertainly.
"Why?" Sombra wondered.
"I've never been put in charge of anything when I was in Ponyville, because anything they ever tried asking me to do, I screwed up even if it was the easiest of tasks." I informed, looking away from the stallion.
"Dont you dare!" He commanded angrily. I looked up at Sombra with a surprised face, and I saw that he was actually smiling. "Don't you dare say bad things about yourself." He said softly. "This is not Ponyville." He comforted with a smile. I relaxed and sighed.
