Chapter 45 - The Prince Of The Crystal Empire.

Since the day I was told about my pregnancy, my entire life has changed. All my friends, which included the alicorn princesses no longer treated me like a buddy or somepony funny, but instead, I was given much more respect and care from them, like a full grown mare. I found it strange at first, but with time I realised that I in fact needed that peace and quiet that came with such respect.

As the pregnancy progressed, Sombra became much more protective. With every new month, he would add a guard or two to follow me whenever I wished to leave the castle; or he would just leave whatever he was doing and follow me himself instead. At times it was annoying, but around my 8th month pregnancy, I suddenly realised how important all of this was.

That was when I changed myself. Without regret, I had the best architects in The Crystal Empire work on a room and crib for the baby. As well as Rarity who excitedly offered to make Royal clothes, and Twilight who already started gathering books and preparing lessons she could start teaching, once the baby would be old enough. 

In fact, all of my friends helped as much as they could. Even Celestia gifted us a royal buggy which was enhanced with golden touches here and there. Rarity happily embedded some crystals into it, to make it reflect The Crystal Empire's bright spirit.

I couldn't stop thanking all of them. I wondered how I could ever repay them for all those helpful things they did for the baby, Sombra and me.

One evening, a week before the baby was due, Sombra and I walked peacefully down a corridor in the castle. We wandered past rows of familiar statues, paintings and tapestries. Torches glowed peacefully in the sides, casting shadowy silhouettes on the walls. 

"I can't wait to see the room." I said, trying to remain as calm as possible. In reality though, I was very excited to see what the room looked like since the architects and my friends finished working on it. Sombra and I didn't visit the room, so it was going to be a surprise for us.

"Me too, darling." Replied Sombra, who seemed to have been much calmer than I was.

Eventually we walked past our bedroom, and stopped by the adjacent door, which was the room for our baby. I approached the door excitedly and placed my hoof gently on the doorknob. I looked at Sombra, who gave me a single nod of his head, beckoning me to enter.

With a twist on the doorknob and a gentle push on the door, we found ourselves inside the adorable room. I first gazed upon the ceiling which had large and colourful fabrics spread out across it. They hung loosely, imitating the sky and clouds, creating pure comfort. Further down, the crystal walls shone brightly with shades of yellow and orange, scattering happy glows of colors around the room.

The floor had a fluffy soft carpet spread out across it, with designs of lakes, forests and mountains sowed into it. It all gave off the feeling of a happy and peaceful haven, which I simply loved.

Beside one of the walls, was a fancy crystal crib draped with transparent fabrics. It was protected with tiny embedded velvet cushions wherever there was a sharp corner. The blankets inside the crib were highest quality silk and velvet, and they came with a small teddy bear who motionlessly waited for the arrival of the baby.

Further down the room was a wooden crate cushioned with fabric on the edges. It was colorful and displayed numerous patterns for the baby to explore. To its side, were a few low steps that would help the baby climb into the toy crate, which was filled with tens if not hundreds of toys to play with.

On the other side of the room, was a tiny slide in the corner and a basketball hoop to its right. Wherever I looked, there was something for the baby to play with and explore. I looked at Sombra tearfully, who also seemed to be in awe.
