Tash and Logan are my two best friends. They drive me crazy, but also keep me sane. They are who I turn to for pretty much everything. Both are my confidants and tell me the truth when I need to hear it. Today we are meeting for lunch. Logan and I arrive first.
"You never got back to me about my first draft," Logan tells me.
We're on opposite sides of the table.
"I completely forgot. Give me a few minutes, I can read it now," I answer him as I pick up my phone.
"Okay. No pressure. Just wanted another set of eyes to go over it," he says.
"I'm on it," I search my email for Logan's paper.
"So, I heard you walked in on your roommate the other day," he says.
"The living room is a common area. Apparently, Tash missed that memo," I say.
Logan laughs.
"By the way did you call her?" I ask him.
"For?" he wonders.
"To remind her we're having lunch." I say.
"Tash is an adult," Logan states acting like he doesn't know she's the most forgetful person we know.
"So, you weren't interested in eating today?" I reply.
"Can you do it please? She stresses me out with her chronic tardiness," Logan answerst.
My call to Tash goes to voicemail. I get a message seconds later: On my way!
"Relax. She remembered," I show Lo the message.
"What'd you say the other night after you interrupted them?" Logan asks getting back on topic.
"Nothing. They're free to do what they want. Just an awkward moment for everyone involved," I explain.
"That must have been hilarious," Logan says.
"Sean was sooo embarrassed. He could not get out of there fast enough," I add.
"And Tash?" Logan presses on.
"Nothing embarrasses Tash, you know that. If her hair was on fire, she'd talk about how she needed a shorter do," I state.
"Feels like a facade sometimes," Logan observes.
"What does?" I ask.
"Tash," Logan answers.
What?
"I would hope not," I reply, "Tash has only ever been the same person she was when we first met. I hope if there are other sides to her that she doesn't feel the need to hide them."
"I hope so too. We're her friends, who else would she share her innermost thoughts with?" Logan wonders.
"Sean?" I say.
"Please, he'd be the last one. Don't you think?" Lo sounds pretty sure of it.
"I don't know," I say, "up until a minute ago I never suspected Tash of having multiple personas."
"It's possible. While you're figuring that out, you might want to go home and clean everything," Logan advises.
"Why?" I wonder.
"Who knows how many of those surfaces they've done it on," he suggests.
"Lo, why would you put those images in my head," I ask.
"Nobody told you to picture it," Logan defends himself.
Tash finally shows up, "Sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry!"
"Can you please join us in this century and use the calendar on your phone?" Logan asks Tash.
"I'm not idiot, I know how to use it," Tash explains, "I just forget to set the reminders and consequently forget to show up. If anything, I'm guilty of not remembering to remind myself. Does that make sense?"
"No, that makes absolutely no sense," Logan says in his most serious voice.
"We're a bit hungry Tash," I say.
"I am too, let's order," she responds.
