"Tell me what to do..." I smiled as he looked up at me with almost expecting eyes. It reminded me of a small child ready to learn. I was happy.
"Ok then..." I said as I started to think things over. "Where to start..." I shot him this look and he narrowed his eyes in confusion. We had to start with the basics because Caz said he had never practiced magic before. I wanted to start with something fundamentally similar to what he may have experienced with his powers. I honestly don't know anything about his powers but I did see the gust of cold wind he used to put out Roman's fire. So let's start with that. I narrowed my eyes as I let my fingers glide through the air moving just right to do the positions for the spell. Cassidy's eyes went wide as this energy began to envelop around my hand until... This small blast of wind erupted out causing our hair to whip a bit before settling back down. "It's a wind spell."
"What was with the fancy finger movements?" I laughed again causing him to glare at me as I fixed my hair back to how I had it.
"That's just how I prefer to do spells. You have to figure out how you want to put your energy into it." He started to think about it and I just watched him. He seemed to pierce his lips as he concentrated. "It has to be personal, Caz. Do what makes you feel connected."
"What if I don't feel comfortable doing those hand gestures or... talking?" I just smiled as he looked at his hands. "What am I supposed to do then?"
"Whatever you want to try. You can even use things called tokens to focus on. Basically there just these personal items you put your energy in and they help to direct it towards the spell." His eyes went wide and I watched as he jumped up running back into his room. I could hear him throwing things about till he came out completely out of breath. He fell to the floor and handed me over these two rocks. I just narrowed my eyes but his bright smile made it impossible to criticize. "You want to use these?" His smile got even brighter and I laughed a little bit. "Ok... It's your choice but uh... Tokens are normally small... easy to carry on your person." He narrowed his eyes and I frowned. "If you plan to use a token for your spell work, you'll be carrying it on you all the time."
"What do you suggest then?" His smile fell as he just started to the rocks and I sighed. These clearly meant a lot to him. And the more meaningful the better. If the spellcaster has a strong connection to the token he uses the spell with always be better. I looked the rocks over and I narrowed my eyes. I remembered this necklace a friend of mine used to have and an idea popped into my head.
"Is it alright if I alter it a bit?" This fear filled his eyes and I frowned. "I promise it's nothing bad." He looked over at the rocked and sighed pulling his knees in as he waited. "Should I take that as a yes?" He shook his head and I smiled. I put the two rocks on the floor and Caz watched me intently. I narrowed my eyes in thought before finally taking off this bracelet that Patton had given me during the trip. Caz looked up at me questioningly as I placed it with the rocks. I just smiled. I'm sure Patton would mind me using it for this.
"Logan..." I took a deep breath and melted into the spellwork. I could feel the energy building up and I narrowed my eyes. I wanted this to be perfect. It had to be. It was a token... not just some random thing. It was not only very important but it held meaning to Cassidy. If I didn't give it all I had then what would be the point. I gritted my teeth and set to work on pushing as my energy as I could into the spell. When I felt it build even more I started to smile. Caz was just watching me with awe in his eyes and I laughed as I closed my eyes. Words filled my head of countless enchantments and incantations.... spells of all sorts as I sifted through my memory. I let the words form as I began to whisper them. Light and energy burst through the room and I smiled feeling it condense around the stuff on the floor. When I opened my eyes I was in awe at what laid in front of me. Cassidy picked it up and just stared at it. I obviously started to get nervous. I would hate it if he...
"I hate it." He smiled brightly as he held it delicately in his hands. One of the rocks had been modified to look in the shape of one of those long crystals. It was still a rock. That much was clear as day. Its color had remained the same and everything. It just looked different in its overall shape. Same with the other rock... The smaller rock. That one had become a very intricate and unique looking cage like thing that protected the other rock. The bracelet had become the chain and I was very happy. "What about your..."
"Don't worry about that. It's being put to good use." I watched him put it on with a bright smile on his face. He likes it... I'm glad. He glanced over at me with this blush on his cheeks and I just laughed. "So that's your token. It's meant to have a metaphysical connection with you so don't be afraid to use it for focusing your powers too. It doesn't need to be used just for magic."
"So... What do I do now?" He held the necklace tightly in his hand as he glanced back up at me.
"Now... We try that spell."
