Watching Roman walk off with Mr. Mclaughlin honestly made me worried. Roman physical kid. His power was elemental. I frowned and glanced around confused. I usually to pay attention to everyone's powers and why they can do.
Since my Superintelligence is based around planning and proper execution, gathering intel on others provides with much-needed training in of itself. The fact that my power also allows me to I am proficient in MANY languages also helps. The problem is that's all I've been able to work on. Everything else has been suppressed by my mask. I'm just glad that also meant that stupid machine couldn't read my level. I don't want to know what it is.
To think I had to take my mask off... It scared me. Roman just fell like a bag of bricks the moment my mask left my face. It was the only thing I could think of to do. I don't even know why I thought it would work. Thankfully, it did. I don't want to hear how I betrayed people by saying I'm powerless. Because at the end of the day...
I was the only one that ever got hurt by that desition.
"Hey, kiddo. Wanna spar?" I jumped as Patton grabbed my arm, startling me from my thoughts. He just laughed as I shook my head. I'm pretty sure if we spared... I win. With or without control... "Guess that's for the best. I don't know what powers you have after all."
"And I know yours..." He tilted his head and I smiled. "I did say I would show you, didn't I?" He started to nod and I felt the anxiety bubble up. "Here's the thing Pat. I... I have no..." His face fell and I looked away. "I have no control. I've never used them. Not once. Not... intentionally."
"Well, that's ok, Kiddo. Maybe I can help." He gave me this smile that I... I've never seen someone give me before. Not even my parents smiled at me so brightly.
"It... It could be dangerous..." He shook his head and I took my hand, squeezing it gently.
"I told you. I'm not going to let you go through this alone." I felt myself start to smile and as he sat next to me.
"You have a personal power... Telepathy?" He nodded and I sighed trying to collect my thoughts. "Do you... Do you think you could help me try to focus mine? It's not telepathy but maybe..."
"Personal powers are just that... personal. At least that's what Mr. Sean says. I'm sure we could figure out a way..."
"Power nullification." His eyes went wide and looked over at me confused. "That's not the only one I have, obviously." I gestured to my hands and he narrowed his eye listening intently. "There's also... Power mimicry."
"Two out of the three rare ones are pretty..."
"That's not all." He clammed up and glanced over with sad eyes. Having more than three powers is considered a death sentence for your mental state... I'm pretty sure I've mentioned that before. "I also have Energy Manipulation."
"You're the reason...." He instantly slammed his hand over his mouth and I cringed at the sound he made.
"What? I'm the reason for what?" He started to look worried and anxious and I crossed my arms. "Patton tell me."
"Roman has a new power!" He blurted out only to cover his mouth again.
"He does?" Patton nodded sadly and I just let the thoughts run through. That would make sense. He was very adamant about checking out that 'reader', despite my constant request to forgo it. And the fact that he went with Mr. Mclaughlin instead of Mr. Kjellburg must mean it's a personal power. But what did I have to do with it... "Patton..." He shook his head and I glared. I watched as he slowly let his hands drop and he sighed.
"Logan informed me that... Well, that Roman had a new power. That power was also why he was getting sick and..." I raised an eyebrow at him and he groaned in frustration. "He apparently has... energy perception."
"What does that mean?"
"Basically, at the moment he can sense the energy around him." I was confused at what that meant but when Patton looked at me with these sad eyes it finally clicked. "And he can feel when it's disturbed."
"Who disturbs it more than an energy manipulator? That why he got sick at the mall. I took my damn mask off..." Patton reached out for my hand I jumped up starting to pace. "Heres the thing though Pat. I need to train. I have to get a handle on these powers otherwise I am worse off than Ghost is and he literally went crazy. But if I take my mask off than Roman is likely to notice and or get sick which means... I'm stuck." I froze in place and dropped to my knees. "He can't find out I have powers. He'll either feel betrayed or guilty over treating me like shit... He's actually seemed to have gotten past all that bullying. I don't want to hurt him."
"So let do it at night." I looked up at him and he smiled at me. "Just us, while the others are sleeping. We'll come back here and practice."
"Do you really think the teachers are going to be ok with it?"
"Why wouldn't they. It's not illegal to use your powers and besides..." He took my hand and pulled me up still smiling away. Except for this time... It had a hint of deviousness. "They all think you're powerless."
"Ok! Class over!"
