CHAPTER LV

December

"Mum, can we please go to the mall? I'm so bored." Chance said as he plopped down the couch with his phone in his hand.

"Well, it's freezing outside and I would just appreciate it if we stayed inside." I said as I shoved a spoonful of cereal in my mouth.

"But muuuum..." He dragged on bouncing in his seat.

"Ask Uncle Ni if he wants to go to the mall with you." I said, really just wanting to stay in after working for six straight days.

"But I want to spend time with my mum; I'm always spending time with Uncle Ni, I never spend time with you anymore." He pouted making me finally give in.

"Fine, fine, just let me go change and please put something warmer on." I said as I stand up with my empty bowl, there was no way I was going to go with my sweats and an oversized shirt.

"Yes! Thank you mum!" Chance cheered and tiptoed to kiss my cheek before running up the stairs.

"Chance, no running on the stairs!" I called out before putting the bowl on the sink and following Chance's footsteps upstairs.

I just settled on a pair of denim jeans, a burgundy sweater and beige ankle boots. I just settled on letting my hair loose and just putting on pink lipstick.

"Chance, all set?" I called out as I stuffed my wallet and my phone on my purse and other things that Chance might need like wipes, tissues, a first aid kit pouch and an extra shirt of him.

"Yes mum!" He called out as I trudged down the stairs. "Uncle Ni said he's going to bring dinner here later."

"Okay." I nodded as he helped me lock the doors and the windows.

"Thank you mum." He said as we climbed up my white Range Rover.

"For what?" I said, buckling my seatbelt.

"For saying yes to the mall." He nodded, buckling his seatbelt as well.

"Well..." I started as I drove. "You're right we should go out more."

"Yes, I know you love your job and Uncle Ni said you worked so hard to get to where you are and I understand that mum but sometimes I miss you." He said, sadness laced in his voice.

"I didn't know you feel that way, love." I said glancing briefly at him before returning my gaze at the road. "I'm glad you told me. Tell you what; we'll save Saturday afternoon for family time, yeah?"

"Thank you, mum." He said happily and stayed quiet the whole time to the mall.

I couldn't help but sulk a little bit, telling myself that I was being a shitty mother to my child. I figured calling Teri, she has become my personal assistant now during the day shift, and telling her that I might lessen my work days to 4 days now, I would choose my son over this job, any day.

"Where do you want to go first?" I said, wrapping my arm around Chance's shoulder as we walk inside the mall.

"Can we go to the arcade mum?"

"Sure, love." I smiled and as soon as I did, he escaped from my grip and ran towards the direction of the arcade.

I just shook my head and tried to pick up pace, I was too old for running.

When Chance was about to enter the arcade, he bumped into a girl with peach hair and when I reached them he was telling strings of apologies at the girl he almost tackled.

"Oh, Chance." I turned to the girl briefly before returning my gaze to Chance. "I'm sorry; my son's a little bit excited for the arcade."

"Venus?" My body stiffened at the sound of the voice, if she was who I thought she was, I don't know what I'll do. "Oh my god, it's really you!"
