CHAPTER LVI
December
I took a seat on the bleachers as I watch Chance run through the field. I was fifteen minutes early but I didn't want to spend it in my car, might as well, watch my son.
It has been a week since I saw and talked to Niall and maybe it was a good thing that we had this argument because I have been spending a lot of time with Chance.
"Mum!" Chance waved his hands at me, I waved back, making some of the parents gasp, maybe I was young to be a mother, but it wasn't their business.
I watched as he did his thing. My son was good and I wasn't saying that because I'm his mum and maybe it was in the genes, his father is the football captain of Manchester United.
"Hi, excuse me." A woman said as she took a seat next to me. "Hi, are you Chance's mum?"
"Yes." I nodded, looking at her.
"Oh, wow, hi, I'm Christine, Hugo's mum, the kid with the number 19 on it." She pointed and I followed her gaze which landed on a huge kid with blonde hair. "I'm sorry but aren't you a little young to be Chance's mum?"
"Um, sorry?" I asked again.
"And where's his father? He calls that bloke that fetches him, Uncle, so that mustn't be his father, no?" Wow, this woman just doesn't know how and when to keep her mouth shut.
"I think my age and where Chance's father is, are our business. Not yours." I said, trying to keep my composure as I kept my face forward, looking at Chance.
"Well, is Chance eating well? He's looking thin, maybe you're not feeding him well." She pushed, making me snap my head towards her. "It must be hard trying to support him, a single mum like you. And where do you work? I suppose I haven't seen you around."
"Excuse me? Are you accusing me of neglecting my son?" I snapped, making her raise her hands in defense.
When she was about to reply, my phone rang, making me retrieve my phone from my pocket.
"Dr. Styles." I answered the phone breaking my gaze from the obnoxious woman beside me.
"Hello, Dr. Styles, I'm sorry to disturb you but someone is looking for you, says it urgent." Teri's voice said and I mentally groaned.
"Who is it?"
"A woman named Marie says she has a couple of questions about her medications and we can't really give instructions Dr. Styles, that could get us fired, we're sorry." Teri's apologetic voice said and I understood her.
"Okay, I'll be in the hospital in fifteen to twenty minutes tops; I'm picking up my son from practice." I said and hung up the phone.
The woman was still beside me and I took a moment to observe her. She was wearing baggy pants, Skechers and a huge pink and green handbag. She looked like your typical obnoxious mum that you see on television.
"Doctor? You're a doctor?" She scoffed, clearly not believing me and I was about to answer when someone I recognized was my patient approached me.
"Dr. Styles!" Earl, a patient I had who had multiple migraines that he said he couldn't stand that's why he keeps coming back to the hospital but there's nothing wrong with him, he just watches too much television. But he was a sweet old man that always brings me cookies when his wife bakes.
"Earl, hi!" I beamed as I hug him. "How are you?"
"Good, good, you're right; I haven't been watching television that much and so far, no headaches! And the medicine you gave me helped me so much!" He laughed as he adjusted his glasses.
