CHAPTER XLI

November

"Hey." I greeted him as he sat down next to me. I knew I sounded unenthusiastic but I was just feeling off since the Halloween Party and he noticed it, but unfortunately he wasn't laying low. I wasn't even forcing myself to feel low; it actually felt like our relationship was hindering him from his dreams.

"What's wrong?" His eyebrows furrowed as he looked at me with those blue-green eyes I fell in love with.

"Nothing." I didn't want to come off cold, intentionally, but I just couldn't bring myself to be thrilled that he was here, knowing he'd get in trouble after this.

"Oh, okay." He frowned and looked down. I couldn't help but feel guilty but it's for the sake of his dream, at least that's what I tell myself. "Want to go grab dinner later?"

"Can't." I said as I stood up to gather my things. "I have my gig at the bar."

And with that, I kissed his cheek and went to walk away.

My heart felt heavy, but there wasn't a point in denying that our relationship is killing his career and his career was killing his relationship.

I didn't know why his manager has particularly made it a point to torture him every day but it was for him. There weren't whips in his back, or whip scars like Thomas told me since I saw him leave the bathroom without a shirt on. But he did have multiple bruises that I didn't care comment on since I already know where it came from.

"Hey." I said to the phone as Niall picked up after the third ring. "Are you coming to the bar later? Please say yes."

"Wouldn't miss it for the world." He laughed and hung up.

It was nearly 7 at night when I finished my internship at the hospital and I was knackered but I still have a job to go to.

I actually felt like a modern girl Freddie Mercury with my white top tucked in light wash denim jeans, a black belt and a black leather jacket with white Adidas shoes. It wasn't intentional, I swear, it was the first thing in my drawers.

"I'm downstairs! And too lazy to come up!" Niall said after I picked up the phone.

I shook my head and went down to the parking lot and Niall's car wasn't anywhere to be seen.

I pulled out my phone and dialed his number.

"Where the hell are you, you tosser?" I mumbled grumpily in the phone.

"I'm a minute away!" He laughed.

"Then why the bloody hell did you make me come down?" I groaned.

"So I don't have to wait." He said in a 'duh' tone and laughed afterwards.

"Fuck you." I grumbled as his car stopped in front of me with the windows rolled down.

"What's got your knickers in a twist?" He chuckled. "Can't remember the last time you swore like a madman."

"I'm just stressed and knackered. I'm sorry." I mumbled as I got in the front.

"Why?" He asked as he began to drive. "If you don't mind me asking."

"School, internship, job." I said as I counted my fingers.

"No Louis then?" He chuckled lowly.

"Nope." I bluntly said, not wanting to talk about it.

"Sure." He stated with a tone that says 'I don't really believe you but I am not going to push you either'.

We kept quiet for the rest of the drive, making me think about certain things like why is the grass green, couldn't it be pink? And things I don't remember thinking about, just the usual nonsense. I was glad I didn't have to think about Louis as I stared in the passing houses and buildings.
