CHAPTER LXVIII

February

"Dad, she's awake!" I heard Chance's voice as I fluttered my eyes open.

My head hurt so badly and I wanted water so I choked that out first, since my throat was dry and it felt bad.

"Here" Louis said as he carefully placed the glass on my lips.

As I drank, I took notice of my surroundings and it seemed like I was in the hospital.

"What am I doing here?" I asked Louis as soon as I pushed the glass of water away from me.

"Um, you fainted after, we, um, we told you..."

Oh. Yeah, after they told me my fiancé's ex-fiancée is pregnant with his baby.

"How long was I out?"

"Over night." He answered.

"What time is it?" I asked him as I scan the room for a clock.

"Almost 3 in the afternoon."

I closed my eyes, heaving a huge sigh as I flipped my legs on the side of the bed, wanting no more than to go to Holmes Chapel and vent out to my brother. Like I said before, it doesn't matter how old I am, I'm always going to need Harry.

"Whoa, love, easy." Louis said as he rushed to my side helping me get up. "The doctor said you should still rest."

"I'm a doctor, too, and I say that I feel fine, perfect actually." I hissed as I grabbed what seemed to be my clothes and went to the bathroom, ignoring a frazzled Louis there with Chance.

I bit my lip, knowing I had to be strong; knowing me lashing out on Louis wasn't needed.

It wasn't his fault; the baby was conceived way before we saw each other again, it wasn't Eleanor's fault as well.

It was just another way of the universe fucking us up but I knew I had to fuck the universe back, I wasn't going to give up easily.

"I want to go home." I sadly said, softer this time.

"Okay, I'll call the doctor, yeah?" Louis said and with that, he disappeared, leaving me with Chance.

"Mum?"

"Hmm?" I asked Chance as I sat on the edge of the bed.

"Will you be okay?" He asked and I almost cried at how selfish I am to make my son worry about me.

"Yes, love." I smiled softly, motioning for him to come over here.

I wrapped my arms around my son, briefly wishing that I wish it was just the two of us again but I erased the thought completely, knowing it was absurd to think that.

"I'm glad you're going to be okay, mummy." Chance hugged me back, burying his face on the crook of my neck.

We stayed like that for a while before he raised his head up to look at me.

"Happy Birthday, mum." He greeted with an awkward smile.

"Oh." I said as the realization hit me that it was indeed my birthday. "Thank you."

"I got you a gift, mum!" Chance grinned. "But its back in the house, dad says I shouldn't tell you but we bought a cake for you!"

"Then, why did you tell me if dad said you shouldn't?" I threw my head back in laughter at my son who couldn't keep secrets to me.

"Well, I thought it would cheer you up." He reasoned. "Dad said we should've baked a cake but he said that you'd appreciate not having the house burned down."
