After that weird dream I was pretty out of sorts the whole day. I was glad that it didn't return, at least not yet.
The boys had been staying with me for about two months now.
I'd been able to escape being bit thus far but that also included doing everything I could to avoid them.
Other than the occasional visit from sleepy-time Shu and Laito in class, I hadn't really seen the other brothers.
I managed to skip most gym lessons with the premise of a hurt ankle but I could only drag it for so long. So here I was, in front of Ayato again as we began warmups.
"Why are you avoiding me, midget?" He asked sternly. I gave him a glance and huffed, not replying. He should know why perfectly well. I grabbed the ball when he wasn't paying attention and shot it into the hoop. "Focus on the match, Oreo." I smirked and he returned it twice fold, a silent signal to bring it on. I had managed to distract him for now.
Or so I thought.
We were playing pretty rough, nothing new, but it seemed as though Ayato was trying to injure me, deliberation in his charging foul.
And as such, I soon found myself on the floor, my shoulder having been rammed into by the auburn haired male. My shoulder hurt, my palms were covered in grit and my knee scraped and bleeding. I sent him a glare that he greeted with a triumphant smirk. "Yo teach. Mid-uh Ace fell, can I bring him to the nurse?" He asked, further rousing my suspicion. There was no way in heck he'd actually be worried about me, let alone volunteer to bring me to the nurse. What is he thinking?
Begrudgingly, I put my arm over his shoulder and we hobbled to the nurse's office.
Once we got there, he slammed the door open, not bothering to knock. He tossed me unceremoniously onto one of the beds and closed the door behind him.
Looking around, there was no nurse in sight. "You sneaky son of a-"
"You haven't answered me Midget." he hissed, grabbing some supplies from the cupboard. "But since Ore-sama is so nice I will help you dress your wound." He gave a devilish smirk. 'Oh god, hot-but not the time Ace!.'
"Uh, considering your medical knowledge, no thanks, I'll just-" he pulled my arm back onto the bed as I tried to get up. "Don't disobey me." His eyes stabbing into mine. He knelt down to my knee level, my wound still raw and bleeding, covered in debris.
"W-wait, don't you dare-" I felt his cold tongue smear across my knee. It stung and I cringed. He seemed disgruntled at the taste. "The rocks are muddling your taste." He muttered before going back in. My toes curled painfully. It freaking hurt!
"Ayato! Stop it! It hurts you asshole!" I try to kick him but his grip is firm on my calf.
His tongue rubbing against the wound is making it bleed more and I can see him smirk. 'That butt!' I huff and give up. "Okay! Okay! I avoided you because for once in my life I don't know what to say to someone okay?!" I yell, finally kicking my leg free. I scowl at him and he smirks even wider. "Don't know what to say to Ore-sama? Why? Awed by my greatness?" Giving a shit eating grin. "No, its because I don't want to make you listen to something that would hurt you when we aren't close enough to discuss that topic." I look at him, eyes narrowed.
He looks at me and his eyes blow wide.
He grabs the materials he placed by the bed, knuckles white. He goes to work with the antiseptic, clearly unbothered with my flinching. "How...do you..." He growled, pressing the cotton ball onto my skin with deliberate force and I hissed in pain.
Colorful language left my lips in a whisper as I continued to thrash against his grip.
He pulled the gauze over my wound, tying it particularly tight. I pulled my leg from his grip and stood up. "You know if you wanted to know so badly, maybe try getting to know me more! Here I am trying to be nice to you but you bloodsuckers can't see to recognize kindness even if it hits you in the face!" 'I shouldn't say that, I know why they are like this.' I frown at him before turning my back and walking off.
Not knowing if my leg or my heart stung more.
'Why do I even feel bad?!'

I walked into my next class, one that I had figured out on the first week that I shared with Subaru.
We had actually become pretty okay with one another. So far there's been no arguments or awkward silence, unlike math class with Reiji. Let's just say the albino was actually pretty cute when fussing over his painted flowers or wood carvings.
"Hiyo Tsunbaru~" I greeted, glad to take my mind off Ayato.
He looked at me, his eyes narrowed. He looked away. 'Why you gotta be so r00d...?'
I sat down beside him and picked up my canvas, recalling how he kept moving seats to avoid me on the first day we sat together and how, in spite, I chased him until he relented. Pulling out the paints from the drawer of the table, I continued on the rose that I had sketched in the previous lesson.
Subaru looked at me again and hissed. "You smell like blood."
